The crisp morning air awoke her as it traveled through the nearby opened window. She turned and smiled gently facing the sunlight of the new day. It was like facing her love, and being greeted in a form above living things. Everyday she waited in anticipation of a great miracle. And today, was the greatest of them all.

She arose and got ready for the day ahead, her eucalyptus vines spiraling down in the shower to awaken her senses. There was sounds of the ocean crashing against the rocks as she looked up and gave thanks. She shifted to the view outside the bathroom window, her eyes all aglow. Once a year the two toned oceans separating the coastlines blended together and sparkled like a diamond. It was like being front row at a glorious wedding ceremony, a celebration of a lifetime. The joining oceans, the coupling together of two hearts made one. This was the first time she caught it in motion, it was all in perfect alignment and timing. This was the sign she asked for; manifested in a beautiful message words could not even fathom.

Without hesitation she called her love and made plans to travel, no matter the barriers between them. They were different but the same. Their skin both varying shades of the earth, but is soft, supple, and warm. They didn’t share language, but when they spoke about love it pierced their hearts beyond any translation of human words. Their love joining together made for a masterpiece, above any art stroked with a human hand. It was written in the stars, the moon, and sun. Their destiny was the great joining of souls, for a purpose far beyond this life. She was ready to melt into his skin, become one.

The day for travel came and it felt different than the rest. She breathed deeply to remain present and remember each moment. “I want this day to be sketched in my memory for as long as I live, my love. And we will tell our future children the story of us”, he told her through the phone; before the plane departed. “The time now is 11:11, make a wish my love”, she said. To make a wish would limit me to earth, and the time here wouldn’t be enough with you. We are the numbers and letters, perfectly aligning together.” She wondered what she did to deserve a love that even the ocean, with all its complexities, layers, and creatures, couldn’t contain it. Or maybe she didn’t need to be deserving or even earn this. Perhaps it was already written before she took her first breath, that in the middle of her small island town she would connect with a soul matching hers. Him, from a small condensed strip of land forgotten by the world. It was a miracle mixed with modern technology. He was hers, she was his, and nothing could have prevented them from joining each other in life.

The moment was here. They stood before each other staring into souls, finally interlocking as oceans joined together. Like magnets, they grew closer refusing to part. Their hearts whispered as it synched beat by beat; “Love is our language, and the ocean our translator. Not to be understood by anyone else. Let us take form as hope in bones as a light illuminates a dark path.

And now we are old and gray; my love looks out with our children to witness the great joining of the two oceans. “Look, this is a reminder of your mother and I outside of our human bodies, joining together like every year we age. Just as there is no real end or beginning to the ocean, that is the definition of our love.
