Before the dark ages, Earth was inhabited by many beings and creatures; humans, wizards, elves, gnomes, talking trees, anything and everything you can imagine. As with everything some were good, and some were bad. Now most people think they know what lives in this world. But, in reality, we don’t have a clue. Because all of these beings and creatures are from this earth. Now, many were driven to different realms and worlds but there are several that stayed behind. But we’ll delve into that in another story. My inspiration to write this story came from the full moon I’m looking at. It’s not just any regular full moon, it’s a blood moon. This type of moon hasn’t been seen for thousands of years. So, what is the one thing we think about when there is a full moon? Werewolves!!!
Back in ancient times, werewolves were just known as man wolves. For the most part, they were respected and not feared. They often lived together in villages of their own. But they coexisted with the rest of the world, trading food and supplies with neighboring villages. The most respected family of man wolves was, The Family of Weir. It is said that the Weirs came from noble blood and represented Man wolves at noble gatherings of any sort. This story starts at a time when men began to stop honoring the rules and traditions that had allowed the coexistence of Earth’s inhabitants for thousands of years. Men became greedy and vengeful.
There was a beautiful woman named, The Lady of Sams. Sams lived in a castle and ruled over her own land. Now what no one knew is that the Lady of Sams, was a powerful witch and an enchantress. She never seemed to age. One look at her enchanting beauty, and most were quickly under her spell. Because of that, it was never questioned why she always remained the same age. The trick to her vitality and beauty was bathing in the blood of infants. A baby's blood is innocent. This was her way to cheat death. She was never suspected because the infants came from other villages. She would cast a spell to make herself look like an old beggar and in the dead of night she had the power to travel instantly from village to village, although this sort of travel would leave her in a frail state. One night, the night of a full blood moon, moments after snatching a newborn, horns and bells went off in the village of Gallifrey. There was a large gathering of Elders in the village with visitors from all around the nearby villages. The baby she snatched came from the royal family. She snuck into a shed. It's easy to hide away at night but she was unable to cast a spell to keep the infant from screaming out. She knew that if the baby's cries were heard she'd be found and might not have enough power to get away. So, she killed the baby and escaped in the dark of the night. By daybreak, everyone had already joined in the search for the baby princess, including the Weirs. Screams came from the sheds in the cottages where the Weirs were staying. The Weirs being an old, respected family of man wolves were not suspected at first, but the crude old witch saw an opportunity and took it. Still disguised as a beggar, while the villagers searched for the baby princess, she snuck into the cottage and spread the infant’s blood all over the clothes and floors of where the Weirs were staying. She then came out and screamed, “I know who did this! I saw the man beast snatch and kill the baby princess. I saw their claws tear into the baby's skin. I saw their ferocious bite, tear the princess into shreds!” The villagers dismissed the old beggar until someone screamed out, “Look, there's blood on their door!”. After finding the bloody clothes the villagers turned against the Weirs. The man wolves were forced to leave the town. Some losing their lives trying to protect their family while they fled. Word spread across the land and soon after, man wolves were driven out of society and into the dark. They were hunted and almost brought to the brink of extinction. But, with time, the few who survived were forced to become survivors. Only coming out and night. With the passing years they became stronger, faster, bigger. They were forced to become the perfect killing machines. And it all started at, in the Village of Gallifrey where The House of Weir crumbled. Now you might have already guessed it but since it started with the, “Wiers”, all man wolves became known as Werewolves.
Remember this the next time you see a full moon. It’s better to stay in for the night.
Good night, sleep tight...
