The Horse and the Donkey
“How Two Friends Help Each Other”

A Lesson in Sharing and Helping Others
Once upon a time, on a long dusty road between two small villages, a horse and a donkey walked side by side.
The horse was tall, strong, and proud. His brown coat shined in the sun, and his mane flowed in the wind. He always walked with his head high, feeling important and fast.
The donkey was smaller, with short legs and a tired face. He was not fast, and his back was already hurting from years of hard work. But the donkey had a kind heart and always did his best.
They both belonged to a farmer named Kavi. He loved both animals and used them to carry goods to the market in the nearby town.
One morning, Kavi packed the donkey with a heavy load of salt sacks. The donkey groaned but did not complain. Then Kavi packed the horse with light baskets of fruits and flowers. The horse smiled proudly.
“Look at me,” the horse said. “I carry the sweet things. You carry the heavy load. That’s because I am stronger and faster.”
The donkey sighed. “We all have our jobs. Let’s just reach the market safely.”
The Journey Begins
The road was long and hot. The sun was high in the sky. The donkey began to feel tired after just an hour.
His legs shook, and the sacks of salt felt heavier with every step. He looked at the horse and said softly, “Friend, can you please help me? Just take one sack of salt. It will make my journey easier.”
The horse laughed loudly. “Why should I help you? I already have my own things to carry. You are the donkey—it’s your job to carry heavy loads.”
The donkey didn’t argue. He just looked ahead and kept walking slowly, step by step.
A Sad Fall
As they walked up a hill, the donkey stumbled.
His legs gave out, and he fell to the ground. The sacks of salt crashed beside him, and one of the ropes broke. The donkey lay still, breathing heavily. He was too tired to get up.
The horse stopped and looked back. “Oh no,” he said. “What now?”
The farmer ran to the donkey and checked him. “You poor thing,” Kavi said. “You can’t go any further. You need rest.”
Then the farmer looked at the horse. “Now you must carry all the salt and the fruits.”
The horse’s eyes went wide. “All of it? That’s too much!”
But the farmer was firm. “The donkey can’t walk. You didn’t want to help earlier. Now you must do it alone.”
So the farmer took all the sacks of salt and put them on the horse’s back, along with the baskets of fruit.
The horse groaned. His back felt like it would break.
“This is too heavy!” he cried.
But it was too late.
A Hard Lesson
The horse walked slowly now, much slower than the donkey ever did. He was tired, sweaty, and in pain.
“I should have helped him earlier,” the horse whispered. “Just one sack would have been so easy. Now I carry everything.”
The farmer walked beside him and said, “Sometimes, when we refuse to share a small burden, we end up carrying a bigger one.”
The horse nodded. He understood now.
The End of the Journey
Finally, they reached the market. The horse was exhausted. The donkey, who had rested in the shade of a tree, was feeling better.
He looked at the horse and smiled kindly. “Are you alright?”
The horse looked down and said, “I’m sorry. I should have helped you. You asked nicely. I was proud. Now I see I was wrong.”
The donkey nodded. “It’s okay. We all learn. Next time, we help each other.”
From That Day On…
The horse and the donkey became good friends. When one was tired, the other helped. When the load was heavy, they shared it.
They reached the market faster, and both stayed healthy and happy.
Even the farmer smiled more, seeing them work together as a team.
🌟 Moral of the Story:
If you help others when their load is heavy, one day they will help you too.
Sharing small burdens can stop big problems from happening.
