The High Priestess
The Story of a Young Girl and Mythical Creatures

There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Once upon a time, they used to roam free on the western continent with all the other mythical creatures. The land was filled with phoenixes, griffins, fairies, and all the other creatures of magic and lore. It was a beautiful place. The sun would rise in the morning, leaving the sky an ethereal pink and orange that was reminiscent of the phoenixes. The grass was a brilliant shade of green and where one would find the most mischievous of creatures: the fairies. Come night fall, the griffins would roam the sky, basking in the moonlight. It was the most magical place in the world. That is, until the scientists arrived.
There had always been magic in the world. That should be obvious, considering the magical creatures. But humans were the last to evolve and develop magic. Once they did, they started warring. There were those that wanted nothing but chaos and destruction. Those that wanted more power than they knew what to do with. The greed and the hatred that has always been evident in humans was magnified. There was more bloodshed than ever before.
That was when the scientists came out of the woodwork. They claimed their goal was to figure out why humans were just now developing magic. They said they wanted to know why everyone had different types of magic. There were those that had psychic abilities and those that had elemental. There were some that were able to transform themselves into something new entirely. The scientists scared the civilians with claims that the magic was dangerous. They warned that people should not use it until it was further studied and that those with magic should go to the lab for further tests.
At first, the civilians listened. They brought their siblings, spouses, and children down to the lab for testing. The scientists ran simple tests. No patients were harmed during the tests, and everyone felt safer knowing that the scientists were trying to figure out this new change and attempting to stop the warring magic users. Then, the scientists themselves became greedy with the knowledge of magic. They sought out those with strong or rare magic, including the magic within mythical creatures.
The scientists descended onto the western continent, armed to the teeth. They captured every fairy, phoenix, griffin, and dragon they could, as they had the strongest and rarest of magics. Fairies held the strongest types of illusion magic, griffins had extreme enhancements to their abilities, phoenixes had the magic of regeneration and healing, and dragons had a wide variety of elemental magics. By the time the scientists were done capturing mythical creatures and bringing them back to the eastern continent, there were very few dragons left. To avoid a war between the two continents, the northern continent stepped in.
The northern continent was filled with sympathizers. Those that lived on the northern continent just wanted to live peacefully with their magic abilities and with mythical creatures. They were commonly referred to as witches, as they gracefully accepted this new reality and embraced it. These witches went to the western continent and told the creatures that if they wanted to live safely and peacefully, they were welcome in the northern continent. It took one individual to convince them. This individual was a young girl with an extraordinarily strong magical presence. The dragons sensed her magic the moment she stepped foot on the continent. They conferred with the other creatures about the legends that had been passed down through their generations. There was a legend that one day, a girl would come to them and bring harmony to the world of magic. That girl was going to be known as the High Priestess. One who could master any, and all magic. The creatures decided, right then and there, to follow her anywhere in the world. That is how they ended up in the Valley. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to them, the scientists were gearing up for another attack. This time, however, they had one goal in mind: her.
