I triumphantly left school at the age of fifteen without any qualifications at all. I was considered a lost cause, nothing much better than canon fodder. The fact of the matter was I was painfully shy. I was overwhelmed and failed by the education system at a high school that was little better than a jungle full of dangerous animals. I always promised myself that one day I would show them who the stupid one really was, and it wasn't me.

It took ten years of one dead end job after another to start to put the record straight. I enrolled at evening college to do some after work classes in English Literature. Three years later I was qualified enough to go to university.

At uni I put in three more years of hard work, studying English during the day, and working through nights, weekends and holidays to pay for my books and the bills at home.

Finally, the day came for me to don my mortar board and gown and mount the stage where we were to be presented with our degree certificates. I was so proud of what I had achieved in heisting back my long lost education.
