The Greedy Travelers

Three travelers from different villages met for the first time under a large, shady peepal tree while on their way to the Piercing Spring Fair.

Sitting on the broad platform under the tree, they looked different from one anotherone had a long, thin neck, another had a very small chest, and the third had a wooden leg. Though their appearances were distinct, they shared one common traitgreed.

They quickly became friendly and started discussing the fun they would have at the fair. They talked about gambling to win big money and using it to buy treats like alcohol, sweets, spicy eggs, chicken, and roasted goat.

The man with the thin neck sighed, All this talk is making me hungry. He hoped the other two would offer him food. Though he had some corn kernels in his basket, he didnt want to share them.

The man with the small chest groaned, You have no idea how starving I am. I left my village before sunrise and havent eaten anything since! Meanwhile, he secretly felt the boiled eggs hidden in his jacket.

The man with the wooden leg leaned against the tree, using a cloth bundle of roasted soybeans as a pillow. He waved his wooden leg in the air and said, Im so hungry! If only there were a tea shop here, Id have five glasses of strong tea, plenty of rice, an omelet…

Before he could finish, the thin-necked man interrupted, I cant take this anymore! Lets go down to the valley, find a chicken, and cook it together.

His companions immediately agreed. The thin-necked man went to get the chicken, the small-chested man climbed the hill for firewood, and the wooden-legged man went to borrow utensils from a nearby hut.

Soon, they returned and began preparing their feast. The thin-necked man twisted the chickens neck and cut it into pieces. They lit a fire, roasted spices in ghee, and placed the meat in the pot. They took turns fanning the flames, stirring the pot, and eagerly watching as the meal cooked.

Finally, the thin-necked man lost patience and said, Let me check if its done. He lifted the lid, and the delicious aroma made his mouth water. Without waiting, he grabbed the biggest piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth, attempting to swallow it whole. But the piece was too bigit got stuck in his throat. He choked and died instantly.

The small-chested man turned to the third traveler and said, Well, hes gone. That means more meat for us! What luck! In his excitement, he thumped his chest so hard that he collapsed and died.

The man with the wooden leg jumped in joy. The gods are on my side! Now, all this meat is mine! But as he danced, he slipped on wet leaves. His head struck a rock on the platform, and he died on the spot.

A jackal had been watching from behind the peepal tree. It waited patiently, then slowly approached. It feasted on the delicious meat, licked the utensils clean, and walked off towards the fair.

Moral of the story Greed can be dangerous. We should never be selfish about food but always share it with others.

He couldn't wait to add it to his collection. Julian ran his fingers along the ornate silver engravings—they seemed to shift, metallic forms subtly rearranging themselves https://testmyspeed.onl/.
