Happy Summerween

Author's note - hello! Just adding an author’s note to say thank you all so much for Fuamnach and Eoch making Top Story! I have been dealing with some pretty bad health issues which is not ideal when you are launching your debut work. [Buy Nostalgia, please] and this was really the uplift that I needed. Two great moments of pride in such a short time when pretty much everything else has been painful and a chore. It has really encouraged me in the continuation of my work [I almost have all my pre-written short stories up though there are a couple more] and seeing all the praise does the writer’s heart in me good. I do encourage you to check out my other works as well as my debut poetry book Nostalgia available on Bookleaf Publishing and Amazon at least both in the UK and the US. while I was saving this piece for October my love of Gravity Falls and my appreciation for all the comments and likes have led me to publish The Giving Witch just in time for Summerween! Yes, It is a valid holiday! I will be taking a break to assess my health and prepare for an impending operation that will hopefully lead to my recovery. I wish you all well and hope to be back soon at my full health with more tales to tell.

The giving witch was regarded by all the other witches as the strangest, most disappointing witch around. This was because other witches cursed toes to fall off and warts to grow. The giving witch would sneak powder to mend bone into their meals and light lamps for travellers to find their way home in the dark. Other witches snuck snakes into kennels and chased dogs on their brooms. The giving witch would chase cats out of the path of traffic and would magic tiny creeks for wildlife to gather.

When the night of Hallows Eve came, most witches gathered to cause double double toil and trouble but the giving witch was never invited. Instead at the stroke of twelve, she would board her broom and fly through the night over the lights of the houses and haunts spreading charm to the tricks and something extra sweet to the treats.

That eve as the witching hour neared, the giving witch lit up the jack-o-lanterns in front of her home blue and black while pumpkin soup bubbled on the stove. With a flick of the wand she had possessed since she was a girl her broom came down from the fireplace and off she went into the night.

every jack o lantern passed was enchanted to give off a golden light, Darkwater ponds turned to chocolate and the creepy shadows turned to amusing images the second time you looked. With a swish the cars slowed for little monsters crossing the road, the cats rubbing against her skirts in thanks. She dropped homemade cookies and apple pies into each treat box she could spy, she made shapes out of the fireworks lighting up the sky.

Passing one house with the lights off, the little girl inside disappointed at missing trick or treating suddenly hears a knock at the door and finds her shoes filled with apples and candy to the brim. One lonely boy lay in his bed with a fever but with a wave of her wand, his teddy leapt down and cuddled his owner in his sleep.

And when the dawn came the giving witch flew home and settled into bed for the day.
