The Gift of Sleep Paralysis

How a Terrifying Experience Brought My Grandmother Back to Me

By Haram MalikPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

Sleep Paralysis is a strange phenomenon that can happen to anyone. For those who have experienced it, it can be a truly terrifying experience. It is a state of being where the mind is awake, but the body is still asleep, and it can be accompanied by vivid hallucinations. I never believed in it until it happened to me.

It all started when I moved into my new apartment. It was a cozy little place, but something about it always felt off. I would often feel like I was being watched, but when I would turn around, no one would be there. It was unsettling, but I chalked it up to my overactive imagination.

One night, I went to bed as usual. I fell asleep quickly, but I soon found myself in a state of complete paralysis. I couldn't move, couldn't speak, couldn't even open my eyes. I was completely trapped in my own body, and I had no idea what was happening to me.

Suddenly, I felt a presence in the room. I couldn't see anything, but I could feel that something was there. I tried to scream, to move, to do anything to protect myself, but I was powerless. The presence grew stronger, and I could feel it getting closer and closer to me.

That's when I saw it. A dark figure, standing at the foot of my bed. It was tall and slender, with long, spindly arms and legs. It had no face, no discernible features, but I could feel its gaze on me. It was like nothing I had ever seen before, and I was absolutely terrified.

I tried to pray, to call out to God or anyone who could help me, but my voice was gone. I was completely alone, trapped in my own body with this sinister figure looming over me. I thought I was going to die.

But then, something strange happened. The figure started to shrink, to fade away into the darkness. I could feel its presence growing weaker, and I realized that it was afraid of something. Something that was coming for it.

And then, I saw her. My grandmother, who had passed away years ago. She appeared in the room, standing between me and the figure. She was glowing, radiating a bright light that seemed to fill the entire room. The figure recoiled at the sight of her, and then it was gone.

I was free. I could move again, and I could speak. I cried out for my grandmother, but she was already gone. I was alone in the room, but I felt an overwhelming sense of peace. I knew that I was safe, that I had been protected by someone who loved me.

The next morning, I woke up feeling different. I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders, like I had been given a new lease on life. I knew that I had to thank my grandmother for what she had done for me.

That's when I found the note. It was sitting on my bedside table, and it was addressed to me. It was written in my grandmother's handwriting, and it said:

"My dearest grandchild,

I know that you have been struggling lately. I know that you have been feeling lost and alone. But I want you to know that I am always with you. I am watching over you, protecting you from harm.

Last night, you were visited by a dark presence. I saw it, and I knew that I had to do something to protect you. I am glad that I was able to help you, and I hope that you can find peace in knowing that I am still with you.

Love always,

Grandma"

I was shocked. I had never seen this note before, and I had no idea how it had gotten there. But I knew that it was real. I knew that my grandmother had been watching over me, and that she had protected me from something truly terrifying.

From that moment on, my life changed. I no longer felt alone or afraid in my apartment. I knew that my grandmother was with me, and that she would always be there to protect me. I felt a renewed sense of purpose, and I knew that I had to make the most of every day that I had on this earth.

In the years that followed, I never experienced sleep paralysis again. But I never forgot about the dark figure, or the way that my grandmother had saved me from it. It was a reminder that there is more to this world than we can see, and that sometimes, the people we love are watching over us, even when they are no longer here in body.

Then, one day, something strange happened. I was sitting in my living room, reading a book, when I felt a sudden chill. I looked up, and there she was. My grandmother, standing in the corner of the room, just as she had been the night that she had saved me from the dark figure.

I couldn't believe my eyes. I was seeing a ghost, or maybe it was just a hallucination brought on by stress or lack of sleep. But as I looked at her, I knew that it was real. She was there, watching over me, just as she always had.

She didn't say anything, but she didn't need to. I knew what she was trying to tell me. She was telling me that she was proud of me, and that she would always be there for me, no matter what.

And then, she was gone. Just like that. But I knew that she would always be with me, in my heart and in my memories. And I knew that I would never forget the night that she had saved me from the dark figure, and the way that she had given me a renewed sense of purpose and hope.

Sleep paralysis had been a terrifying experience, but it had also been a gift. It had brought my grandmother back to me, in a way that I could never have imagined. And it had taught me that sometimes, the people we love are watching over us, even when they are no longer here. It was a lesson that I would carry with me for the rest of my life.
