The Genisis

He’s been watching her for months. Eight, to be exact. Since she turned eighteen. He wasn’t happy about it, but he didn’t have a choice. He could’ve been doing something more meaningful, more useful, but no, he was babysitting a girl who may or may not have magical powers.

He isn’t convinced. Every witch or warlock gets their powers when they turn eighteen, although some take longer to kick in. Eight months isn’t unheard of, but surely if she was what they were looking for she would have accidently set something on fire by now.

They’ve been looking for years. Travelling the world to find the girl who will either save or destroy us. The Genisis.

The Genisis has been foretold since the beginning of time. A witch so powerful that she transcends the species and has powers no other supernatural being could ever harness. It is said that she will either save the supernatural world or destroy it. Which makes it vital that they get to her before anyone else does and teach her to harness her power. So that she doesn’t kill them all.

She doesn’t look like someone who could destroy hundreds of supernatural beings with the click of her fingers, but Camilla is positive it’s her. And Camilla is almost never wrong.

‘How’s it going?’

Camilla’s voice rings in his head, even though she’s currently not in the country.

‘Still no accidental fire setting. I really don’t think she’s the Genisis Cam.’ He replies without talking.

‘She has to be. And it might not be a fire, I made a basketball blow up.’

‘Great, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for deflated basketballs.’

‘Keep watching her. If she’s not shown any signs when she turns 19, we’ll cross her off. You won’t be hearing from me for a while, I think they’re getting suspicious. Good luck, little brother.’

‘Bye’

It’s a rare talent to be able to communicate without talking, even in the supernatural world. But his family are skilled at it. Which comes in handy when his sister is spying on a group of supernatural beings’ hell bent on destroying the Genisis’ powers.

The supernatural world is on the cusp of war. People are taking sides, forming plans, getting ready to attack. That’s why Camilla is sure that Khloe is the Genisis, the timing makes sense.

Some people want to destroy the Genisis, and others want to use her. They are either hiding from her or hunting her. And, if Khloe is the Genisis, he needs to get to her before anyone else. He needs to use her. To save themselves.

She’s in the park, studying, which makes it easy to watch from afar without getting caught. She looks frustrated, and very angrily slams the book shut.

As soon as the book closes, the clouds darken and a blast of lightening hits a tree at the end of the park, setting it alight. Then comes the surge of thunder. Rain comes pouring down whilst the fire spreads from one tree to another.

He stands up straight and mutters a few words under his breath, gradually dying down the fire, with the help of the rain. He looks at Khloe, frantically packing her bag and leaving the park, just like everyone else.

He glances at the park once more as he takes off after Khloe, making sure that no-one is hurt, and the fire has died down. He finds Khloe in the rush of people heading to their cars and weaves in and out of the crowd to ensure he doesn’t lose her.

That was a coincidence, right?

Sure, there was no thunderstorm forecast, but that doesn’t mean they can’t spontaneously appear with no warning, right?

They’re out of the crowd now, so he slows down, still keeping an eye on Khloe. The rain is still pouring, and thunder booming. But what shocks him, is that the lightening seems to be following Khloe. It keeps hitting near her. He slows down even more and comes to a stop, turning around and looking over at the park; it’s sunny. The Park isn’t on fire, and it isn’t raining. The storm is following Khloe.

Khloe caused the storm.

She’s the Genisis.
