The Future Olden Days
What will our descendants tell their grandchildren?
My great-grandmother said that if she tried, she could still smell gasoline.
“What is that like?” I would ask.
She would smile. “Like eggs gone bad, I suppose.”
When I flipped through antiquated books from the 2030’s, phrases like “the roar of the truck engine” confused me.
I asked her if she remembered trucks like this.
“Of course. You know,” she chuckled, “I miss that sometimes. I miss a lot of things. But it is worth letting go of tradition to make way for a better world.”

The ram had been discovered just before dawn when the shepherd was alerted by one of his bloodied guard dogs. The dogs were valiant, but the wolf was swift, and the deed was done. The ram had not yet mated with the ewes for the season. There would be no new lambs in the south field come spring.
