The Fortune

She felt something fall to the floor as she pulled her clothes from the community dryer

Tossing the warm pile into the wire basket, she turned to find a wad of cash, bound with weathered rubber bands.

She quickly stashed the cash and hurried to her room. As she began to count the cash, a dark figure appeared outside her door - knocking.

She stood completely silent, holding the money - until the figure called out, “delivery.”

As she ate her fried rice, she opened her fortune cookie. Which read; “a windfall is coming soon.”
