The Forgotten Library

Did you Saw It?

By Bakkiya LakshmiPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

The sun had long since set on the old town, casting shadows across the cobblestone streets. But a few dim lights still flickered in the windows of the library, the only building that remained open at this time of night.

Inside, a young woman named Sarah sat at a desk, surrounded by towering bookshelves that seemed to stretch up to the heavens. She was a librarian, and she loved nothing more than spending her evenings in the musty old stacks, surrounded by the wisdom of the ages.

But tonight, something was different. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she felt as if she was being watched. Every time she turned around, she caught glimpses of shadows darting through the aisles, disappearing as soon as she looked directly at them.

Nerves tingling, Sarah decided to investigate. She grabbed a flashlight and began to explore the dimly-lit corridors of the library. As she made her way deeper into the stacks, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was following her, something that was just out of sight.

Suddenly, she heard a soft rustling sound, and she froze in her tracks. The noise seemed to be coming from behind one of the bookshelves. Heart pounding, Sarah crept closer, shining her flashlight into the darkness.

And there, sitting on a dusty shelf, was a book she'd never seen before. It was bound in ancient leather, and its pages were yellowed with age. But as Sarah reached out to touch it, a cold breeze seemed to rush through the aisle, extinguishing her flashlight and plunging her into pitch darkness.

For a moment, Sarah stood frozen, her eyes wide with fear. But then she heard a faint whisper in her ear, a voice that seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere at once.

"Leave this place," it said. "You do not belong here."

Sarah turned to run, but as she did, she felt a cold hand wrap around her ankle, pulling her to the ground. She tried to scream, but the sound caught in her throat as she saw a figure materialize from the shadows, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.

It was a ghost, Sarah realized, and it had been waiting for her all along.

For what seemed like an eternity, Sarah struggled to free herself, but the ghost's grip only tightened. And as she looked up into its spectral face, she felt her consciousness slipping away, as if she was being pulled into a world beyond the veil of reality.

When Sarah finally opened her eyes, she found herself standing in a dimly-lit room, surrounded by dusty old tomes and flickering candles. The ghost was nowhere to be seen, but she knew it was still out there, waiting for her.

With trembling hands, Sarah began to explore the room, seeking a way out. But no matter where she turned, the books and shelves seemed to shift and move, trapping her in a never-ending labyrinth of knowledge.

For days, Sarah wandered the forgotten library, searching for a way to escape. But as time went on, she began to realize that the ghost had not brought her here by accident. It wanted her to stay, to become a part of the library's never-ending collection of lost souls.

And so, with a heavy heart, Sarah resigned herself to her fate, accepting her role as the latest addition to the library's haunted collection. For as long as the library remained standing, she would remain there too, trapped in a world beyond time, lost among the stacks of forgotten knowledge.
