The Dragon Throne

VALDIS:

A dragon was resting in the woods after a long flight through the night when he suddenly felt a non threatening presence, he opened is eyes and saw a small human walking towards him. He did not know what to do so he laid still on the ground and tried to look as comforting as he possilbly could. Even laying down he was the size a small mountain and could be mistaken for one very easily.

He eyed his surrounding to make sure there was no imminent danger, while keeping in mind that there was a small human walking or more like wobbling towards him.

"Valdis, this is not an ideal situation to be stuck in. What if this little human is just a trap? What if other humans show up to capture you?", he kept repeating these sentences to himself. His train of thought was broken when the human touched his paw and kept repeating "Boo-boo". He noticed blood, his blood coated the humans hands and realized he was hurt. The human kissed his wound as if trying to make him feel better and stroked his paw with gentle caresses, this behaviour was very new and unfamiliar to him. He had never seen a human this small and this fascinating.

Soon after he heard someone shouting the name "Saphira" again and again, the noise was coming from where the small human had initially walked up to him and saw a man walk in through the clearing. He was ready to kill the man right then and there but stopped when the tiny human next to started cooing and repeating "Papa, papa".

The man was understandably scared and was standing his ground from the spot where the dragon and the man had met eachothers eyes. Valdis got up from his position startling both the man and the little human and started walking away to make a safe distance between them all and to understand the situation. Noticing this the man walked forward and picked up the little human, still scared he whispered thank you. Still keeping his face to the dragon and holding the little human he started walking backwards to the clearing. After reaching a safe distance he nodded at Valdis, acknowledging his presence once more and disappeared from Valdis's vision.

SAPHIRA:

People say there are some memories that we always remember, no matter how young we were when they took place. This has cemented a belief that whatever she saw and bears in her mind is true , she whole heartedly believes that it was her guardian angel that protected her in the woods when she got separated from her mother 20 years ago.

Everyone in the village thinks that she is a liar, a liar who would do anyting to get everyones attention and it gets on her nerves. Her father knows the truth, she is certain but he still refuses to talk about that day with her and anybody else.

"Saphira Khair, why are you still not ready? You know the messenger from the village will be at the village common land soon. They are going to give us information about the new settlers.", said her mother, walking into the room and breaking her train of thoughts.

"Mama, I know I know, but I don't want to go. I just want to stay here in my bed, in my room.", Saphira replied yawning.

"Now stop acting like a baby and get ready, or else I am going to pour a bucket of water on you.", threatened her mother. She looked at her mother as if trying to make her disappear with her glare and reluctantly got out of bed.

After getting dressed up Saphira walked towards the common land with her mother and father and saw almost every from her village present. While waiting for the village head, who was an old man with a bading head to stand on the high platform. She heard someone call for her while talking to her mother and saw her best friend walking towards them.

"Leila, I am so glad you are here. I was dying inside just thinking about being alone here." , Saphira said to Leila when she came and stood next her family. Leila looked at her smiling and said, "I am glad to know you missed me enough to be dying" but before sh ecoild finish her sentence the village head got on the high platform and announced, "The new settlers want us to share our food and resources with them. They say that they are here to protect us from unknown and unheard danger, I am not sure of what we all collectively think of this that is why I have arranged for this meeting."

There was a sudden commotion in the crowd after hearing the announcement. Everyone looked confused and scared as to what did the new settlers mean, to me it seemed as if it was a threat or maybe they were actually here to help. But what is the unheard and unknown danger, what exactly do they mean by it. While everyone was getting their thoughts and themselves together a group of people walked with weapons and repeated what the village head had said but in a very taunting tone.

Saphira looked at them and asked them what they meant and a woman a few inches taller than her said,"We are here for the heir of the dragon Valdis, we won't hurt anyone we just the heir's blood and then we can all live in peace and harmony." Saphira's father looked at her and then back at her mother in a warning tone and then started walking towards the woman with his hands up in the air.

Before Saphira could understand anything there was an arrow shot at her father's chest and he fell to the ground because of the wound. Saphira screamed and ran towards her father crying for help and the dragon who had kept her safe all those years ago roared as he flew down from the sky, as if knowing she was hurt and in danger

In that moment she realized that she is the heir of the dragon Valdis and the new settlers are here for her blood.
