The Dragon Farmer

An Employee Handbook

By Jade FerifyrePublished 4 years ago 6 min read

There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Until my grandfather brought them down from the mountains with the ambition to start the worlds first free-range dragon farm, no one in Terracini Valley had ever tasted dragon meat let alone seen one up close. Nowadays, you can find dragon meat in almost every pantry in the world. Who doesn’t recall their grandmothers recipe for minced dragon pie? Or that all-too-controversial pizza topping of dragon liver? And I know it’s not just my family where it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without a Dragon Loaf at the center of the feast table - complete with mashed potatoes, corn, and lingonberry sauce on the side.

But can you imagine? Less than a hundred years ago, only the orcs high in the mountains delighted in these common food items we now know and love. I’m proud to say that it was my grandfather, Vincenzo Fanucci, who brought about the renaissance of dragon farming, breeding, preserving, and protection that is commonplace in today’s world. Without his hard fought experience, no child would get to enjoy those deep-fried dragonballs so popular at county fairs.

So, let me be the first to welcome you to the Fair Dragon Fare family!

Whether you’ve chosen to become a part of it through one of our many recruitment services, or were placed with us via a Workplace Rehabilitation Program, we are so happy to have you. My name is Paulie Fanucci, CEO of FDF and a friend to the world of dragons. I’ll be your guide as you venture into this new world of workplace competence!

The book you have just received from the recruiter is more than just an Employee Handbook, it will also instruct you on the history of our company, detailing how we've gone from a one-man operation to a multi-billion dollar corporation spanning the globe. We at FDF believe in our mission statement "Every Dragon Eaten Is a Life Saved" and we believe that YOU, New Employee, are right at the forefront of that mission.

We also seek to rid the world of the rumors that my grandfather, a kind and gentle soul, actually grew our company using nefarious means. He was in fact just a man who brought about a new global phenomenon through his ingenuity and hard work. Our competitors would love to paint my family as some sort of thug group, the so-called “Dragon Mafia”, but this Handbook will prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that my grandfather was nothing more than a simple farmer who just wanted to put food on his family table.

By joining the FDF family, you not only serve the most successful canned dragon meat operation the world has ever seen, but you also serve...the world. With a global reach of over five billion customers across thirty-seven countries, our free-range Dragons have been feeding starving humans, orc, elves, dwarves, and semi-wolves for nearly a hundred years. Without people like you, New Employee, we couldn’t do what we do: feed the world… one dragon at a time.

Throughout this Handbook, you will come to know how our Department of Sustainability uses it’s massive influence to be a world leader in protecting our forests, rivers, and mountains. You will learn how our PR Department operates to ensure The Company is seen in the best light possible against every vile untruth our competitors throw at us. I will detail how our Management Team ensures all employees, now including you New Employee, follow The Company Laws, Rules, and Regulations. This includes the most important law of all: Omerta. By signing the employment contract you’ve agreed to a code of silence in the face of questioning by any authorities or outsiders. This is considered one of FDF’s Unforgivable Laws, one that is ensured in all Company employees. Should you break this Unforgivable Law, please see Appendix A for ramifications which may occur.

To help you settle into the FDF family, this Handbook is split up into four parts. Each part contains some of my grandfathers story as well as further explanations on what is expected of you now that you are “Company Property” (see Appendix B for definitions of Company Terminology.)

This Handbook should be followed to the letter. From our Dragon Farms to the processing plants to our corporate offices, we expect all of our employees, to follow the Rules and Laws of the Company otherwise forfeit all Terms and Possessions as depicted in the contract you signed upon accepting the position.

In Part I, I will begin telling the story of how the great and good Vincenzo Fanucci, a simple farmer who just wanted to put food on his family table, brought the dragons down from the mountains as well as his fight against the Council of Elders, who didn’t have the same vision of the future Vincenzo had. During this time, my grandfather, the great and good Vincenzo, also discovered over a dozen of our most popular flavors - from the minty Arctic White breed to the more earthy Common Miniature Brown, all your favourites can be found here!

Along with the various breeds we raise, you will also begin to build your knowledge base on dragon farming basics, products currently offered, and our user-end pricing structure.

In Part II, I will begin informing you about dragon safety and security - not just the security of the dragons but yours and your surrounding area as well. I will detail the story of the great and good Vincenzo Fanucci and his near-death experience when several of the Ice Frost Gargantuan’s he’d just rescued from the vast plains of Antarctica had escaped and nearly destroyed a village. Much can be learned from his mistakes, and this Handbook will ensure you know how to handle something like this - not that it could with today’s technology but better safe than sorry as you know!

In Part III, we will go into all the most up to date aspects of dragon health and care, including but not limited to: veterinary care, mental health, scale de-rotting, and more. Much of these procedures were set down by my grandfathers right hand being, Giulia Caltanissetta, an elf of some renown after she took over for her father - then a member of the Council of Elders - once he died of mysterious causes. Giulia was obsessed with cleanliness and the health of the Company Property (in this instance: dragons), so when a sickness spread through the flock she was able to work with the great and good Vincenzo to ensure the continued success of operations. But when a famine causing issues with the dragon feed routes occurred in tandem with the sickness, it proved to nearly be the un-doing of the Fair Dragon Fare family.

Finally, in Part IV, we dive into the business of dragon farming itself. Through our Employee Code of Conduct, you will learn the most important Laws, Rules, and Regulations as set forth by the great and good Vincenzo Fanucci that we still enforce to this day.

I will also complete the history of The Company with a thorough explanation of how we arrived at the multi-billion dollar corporation we’ve become. You will see it was through the hard work of Vincenzo, a simple Dragon Farmer, and not by the cruel means which several - probably jealous - people have suggested he used to get our family on top. I aim to finally put to rest the notion that he was a man of merciless tendencies who was “hell bent on destroying the positive way of life” - as one of our critics put it in a now defunct newspaper. He was just a simple farmer, trying to put food on his family table. It’s certainly not through any type of threat or violence that every competitor who’s tried to match our delicious canned meat success have since fallen into obscurity. Vincenzo told me himself.

Finally, I would just like to say thank you once again. You are just at the first step of a beautiful journey in life. We are so glad you’ve chosen (or had chosen for you) to join us.

Welcome, to Fair Dragon Fare Inc!
