Not yet

By Loveliness DelightfulPublished 9 months ago 2 min read

At the stroke of midnight at the San Diego's daters

clubhouse, Brian kissed his girlfriend, Marianne. Then

he turned to his friend and said, "my girl is the best".

Today Brian sits in his arm chair outside the house

holding a glass of wine. Listening to the sounds

made by the pine trees.

Marianne had come from Canada to visit Brian.

She lives in Canada because of her career.Their

relationship had lasted for two years and this

was her first time at the daters party.

The decorations were nice but was marked by

lack of style.Too many flowers.

After the party as Marianne and Brian prepared

for bed, he remembered her asking, "is there any

other girl in your life?"

Brian took her hand in his, squeezed it so hard.

You think it'll be easy to cheat on you after all

these years. But we've been in this relationship

too long girl for you to be having that thought girl.

Better go on girl.

Few weeks later Brian saw Marianne off to the

airport. Holding her hand firmly he assured her,

"there isn't someone else".

Now Brian sat on his sofa after work feeling

exhausted and lonely. He waves his arm as if

someone might see.

After sometime, he realized the telephone was

ringing. It took several tries to stand from the

comforting sofa.

The telephone had stopped ringing before he got

to where it was. He picked it up, and soon it

started ringing again.

Caroline Stuart was on the phone asking how he felt.

"Without my girl. How else should I feel?"

She laughed a little too much. But it was a good, hearty

one. Just came back from work and getting some rest.

What about you?. Just feeling lonely anyway.

When Brian moved to San Diego, Kirk had introduced him

around making him feel welcome. Soon Brian met the

sister Caroline and they got into a romantic relationship.

But after a year Brian left the relationship.

Caroline asked why it had ended.

" We've just become different people" he said.

"We've run our course. It's time to move on".

Almost three months had passed since

Marianne travelled back to Canada. Caroline

asked, "the daters party at the clubhouse, are

you going?"

Caroline had been a good friend. He missed her. He thought

of how nice it would be to go out and be with people.

Then he remembered how at mid night everyone was expected

to kiss.

"No Caro. Not yet. Maybe next time".
