Once we finished eating both our shares, he looked at me.

"So, what can I call you?" asked Oliver.

"Call me?" I ask.

"Yeah...What's your name?"

My name...I'd never thought about that. People had only ever called me 'cat' and...well, that was it.

"Um, I dunna know..." I said.

"What?! You don't know your own name?" he asked, looking shocked.

"No, nobody's ever called me by a special name."

"Oh, then let's decide on one."

"No, thank you. I'd like to go back to my own home and get some sleep. It's very late." I said.

Who did the guy think he was? We had just met and he was acting like we had been friends for ages, no way was I making friends with this...dog.

"Oh, then we can do it tomorrow!"

"No. There is no 'we' and there is no 'tomorrow'," I said.

"Well, you don't seem very social."

"Thanks for noticing. Now, I'll be on my way, thank you very much." I said, before turning to leave.

As I stepped out into the dark, I felt a gust of cold air go through my fur coat making me shiver.

From behind, Oliver shouted,"BUT IF YOU RECONSIDER, MEET ME AT THE DUMPSTER BY SUNSET TOMORROW!"

I sighed and started walking back, now realizing that I had not been in this part of town before, dang it, I had no idea how to go back home. Just then, a drip of water fell on my nose and then it started dripping more and more. Yes, of course, this was definitely the best time for it to rain. This might be news to you but I hate water.

I ran to the closest alley I could find and hid under a pile of boxes, which I soon realized was a bad idea. There soon came 2 dogs who looked angry. I must've intruded their alley and shelter, they started approaching me and angrily gnashed their teeth and barked. What was I supposed to do against 2 big dogs? Fight? You've gotta be kidding me and besides fighting is not really my forte.

I tried out my luck of escaping the situation by running forward and trying to jump over their big heads, turns out that the idea was extremely dumb. One of the dogs caught my leg by biting it...hard. I cried in pain as I hit the floor. Just then, I saw a figure standing at the end of the alley, though I was half conscious, I recognized it as...Oliver. He had come to save me?

I heard an echo of barks in the alley, the three clashed and fought. In a few minutes, I saw that they had cornered Oliver, oh no, they were going to hurt him. I mustered up all my energy and meowed as loudly as I could. They turned to me and I scratched one of their faces and bit the other's leg...of course, hard, very hard. They both whimpered and ran away hopelessly. Realizing what I had done, I hit the floor and screamed in pain once more and finally, everything went blank.

Awake

I woke up to feel a heavy weight on my body. I looked back to see Oliver who was sleeping on me. Seriously? Why was I with Oliver?

Right, then I remembered what had happened. I couldn't move, his body was to heavy, my paw was injured and there was no point of trying to leave, I was too tired anyways. I noticed that partial light had filled the room, it was already morning but I suppose it was too early to wake up. So, I layed my head back on the cold floor, taking some time to observe Oliver's paw in front of me. It was the first time that I had admired his golden fur with hints of brown, it was quite..pretty. His presence and warmth actually made me feel safe.

Slowly, I drifted back into my slumber, hoping that I would have a dream about myself eating a large amount of fish and mashed potatoes...yum.
