The Circus Witches

”Wickety wompety whoomp, this spell is to make them poop. They’ll be distracted, they’ll be on the toilet long lasted, it will be fantastic. Every time they get up, more will come out of their rump, and this shall last three days,” the coven chanted.
“Now that those horrible people are stuck on the toilet for the next three days, we can leave this town in peace and move to a more accepting town,” Botex, the leader of the coven said.
“No, I say we start our own town. Or at least cast a spell brainwashing these fools into accepting us,” Ludwig said.
“Brainwashing didn’t work last time, Ludwig. Witch hunters from other towns found out and they kept coming after us. And if we move to a town with no humans, who would we sell our herbs, potions and trinkets too? Our economy would fail. Let’s just leave,” Botex said.
The coven packed up their herbs, personal effects, potion making tools and other magical items and left the town.
They were on their way to a small town called La Faux Fox. They had unknowingly bought all of the houses there, and there would be no humans to trade with.
After several hours of travel they had finally arrived. All the houses were in disarray and in desperate need of repair.
“No wonder we got these houses for so cheap,” Rowena said.
“We’ll just use magic to fix them,” Ludwig said. They cast a spell of repair and the houses had fixed themselves.
“Looks like new,” Botex said.
After everyone settled in, Botex called for a town meeting.
Everyone gathered at Botex’s house, which he agreed would be a temporary town hall.
“We own all the houses in town and have no one to trade with but each other. We need to fix this. Any ideas?” Botex said.
“We could build a hotel and turn this town into a tourist trap,” Rowena suggested.
“Well, that’s a start. But what would attract them to our town?” Botex asked.
“We could have a circus or carnival. That way we wouldn’t have to sell or rent our land to those obnoxious humans just so we can trade with them. The tourism would only be temporary,” Ludwig said.
“Brilliant,” Botex said.
They practiced performances and got ready for the circus, even setting up booths to sell herbs and food they grew themselves for before and after the circus.
“We’ll call these booths the concession stands, because this is where those dumb humans will concede more of their money to us,” Ludwig said and laughed.
They made paper flyers and sent them to many other cities, and flurries of tourists came from miles around to see the new show.
The witches gathered everyone inside the circus building they set up, and the witches used their magic to perform their tricks and even created magical animals like lions, tigers, bears and elephants to perform.
They made a fortune off the tourists and charged double for their concessions to make a second fortune. A few of the tourists even stayed at Rowena’s hotel to see a second performance.
“I’m glad we set up the circus. Now we can finally peacefully coexist with those awful, disgusting humans,” Botex said and smiled.
“That’s because they’re only here part time,” Ludwig said and laughed.
A ruckus was heard right outside the city limits.
“What’s that?” Ludwig asked.
“Let’s go check it out,” Botex said.
There was a large group of carnies standing outside the city.
“You witches have taken away our business. Your kind is an insult to legitimate carnival workers everywhere,” a carnie said.
“We’re sorry, we’re not trying to take away your business. But we don’t control where the people go. Maybe improve your show,” Botex suggested.
“How dare you. There’s nothing wrong with our show. You’re using magic to steal our customers. We should be the ones selling them overpriced snacks, not you. We were here first!” The carnie said.
“Should I cast a quicksand spell and get rid of these hideous carnies?” Ludwig whispered to Botex.
“Maybe. Give me a minute to reason with them,” Botex whispered back. Ludwig nodded.
“Maybe we can switch weeks for the carnival? There has to be a reasonable solution to our…” Botex started to say when a large group of humans showed up.
“Hey, leave the witch carnival alone. We stopped going to your carnival months before these guys showed up. Your carnival was old and stale. These witches always have something new for us,” one of the humans yelled.
“Are the humans actually defending us?” Ludwig asked in shock.
“You’re all fools. You have no right to abandon us,” the carnie yelled.
“Well, we did. Bye now,” the human said.
“This means war. Attack!” The carnie shouted and the other carnies with pitchforks and shovels charged at the humans.
“Huffidus, bluffidus, turn these carnies into statues stuffidus,” Botex chanted. One by one, all the carnies turned to stone.
“Well, at least carnies can still perform in our festival, as decorations,” Ludwig said and laughed.
“Thank you humans for helping us,” Botex said.
“Give us a show,” the human shouted at them.
“We’re more then happy too,” Botex said and they gave the humans a free show as repayment for helping.
Year after year for centuries to come, the witches and the humans got along and the witches continued their carnival through the ages. La Faux Fox became the states largest carnival themed tourist attraction and the witches continued to expand their entertainment, adding new shows and rides every year. The same witches who founded the carnival at La Faux Fox, being immortal, are the same witches that perform today. So if you’re ever passing through the area, don’t forget to see a show at La Faux Fox and stay at Rowena’s hotel.

Nice work I like that energy
Cool concept! Well done.
Loved your story.
This was hilarious! Especially this: “We’ll call these booths the concession stands, because this is where those dumb humans will concede more of their money to us,” Ludwig said and laughed. 😆 I loved the ending too. Humans just want to spend money and be entertained. I also liked that the witch carnival was illusion, not animal cruelty.
Love the spells! Harry Potter been real quiet since this story dropped!
I loved this! Reversal of stereotype awesome. Ironic and almost sad that one replaces another as humans doe, Cleverly done. And the name Botex-BRILLIANT! 🤍
Great read!
Oooo, I would love to stay at Rowena's hotel! Loved your story!
