The Camel and the Fox

"How a Clever Camel Taught a Fox a Lesson"

By Imran KhanPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

A tale of mischief and clever revenge

Once upon a time, in a desert near a green village, lived a camel and a fox. They were not the same kind of animals, but somehow, they became friends. They often went out together in search of food and fun.

One day, the fox had an idea.

“There is a sugarcane field across the river,” he said to the camel. “The field belongs to a farmer, but we can go at night, eat quickly, and come back before anyone sees us!”

The camel thought for a moment and said, “Hmm... that sounds risky. But I am hungry. Let’s go, but we must be careful.”

At night, they both crossed the river. The camel walked through the water slowly, and the fox sat on his back to stay dry. Once they reached the field, they began to eat. The camel munched on the tall, sweet sugarcanes. The fox, too, ate a little, but soon he became bored.

The fox was always full of tricks. He liked to play games, even if they caused trouble. After eating a little, he started jumping and howling loudly—“Aoooo! Aoooo!”

“Shh! Be quiet!” whispered the camel. “You will wake the farmer!”

But the fox just laughed. “I always sing after eating. It’s good for my health!”

Suddenly, lights turned on. The farmer had woken up. He came out with a stick in his hand and saw the animals in his field.

“Thieves! Thieves!” the farmer shouted and ran toward them.

The fox quickly ran away through a small hole in the fence, but the poor camel was too big and too slow. The farmer hit the camel with a stick until he ran out of the field and crossed the river again.

When they met again on the other side, the camel was angry and hurt.

“Why did you make noise?” the camel asked. “I told you to stay quiet.”

“Oh, don’t be so serious,” said the fox, laughing. “It was just for fun. Look, you are fine now!”

The camel said nothing. He didn’t shout or argue. But he made a quiet plan in his mind.

The next night, the fox wanted to go back to the sugarcane field. Again, he sat on the camel’s back, and they crossed the river. They ate some sugarcane and were about to leave. This time, the fox stayed quiet.

But as they were crossing the river on the way back, the camel stopped in the middle of the water.

“What are you doing?” asked the fox. “Keep walking!”

The camel smiled. “I always like to take a bath after dinner. It’s good for my health.”

Before the fox could say anything, the camel bent down and sat in the river. The water splashed high. The fox, who was on the camel’s back, fell into the cold river with a loud splash!

“Help! I can’t swim!” cried the fox, shaking and wet.

The camel stood up slowly and walked to the other side, leaving the fox to struggle in the water. Finally, the fox reached the shore, wet and cold.

The camel looked at him and said, “Next time, think before you misbehave. Not everyone stays silent forever.”

The fox understood. He had played a trick, but now he had learned a lesson the hard way.

From that day on, the fox never played such tricks again. And he never howled in someone else’s field after dinner!

Moral of the Story:

If you trouble others for fun, don’t be surprised when the same comes back to you. Always think before you act.
