The Call

'Unknown Number'

By Magnar ArnePublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 2 min read

My eyes barely open I begin to doze off, the phone on my table begins to rapidly vibrate. The rhythm clicking in my head as the phone bounces back and forth, I try to ignore it. It stops for a mere second as it begins vibrating again. Drowsily picking it up and pressing it against my ear, "hello?" It's silent, eerily silent on the other end. Confused with exhaustion I look at the screen, 'Unknown Caller.'

Shaking my head I begin to place my finger to swipe it off when I hear, "help.... Please help!" I recognize the voice, it sounds like Racheal. She seems shaken and horrified as if she were crying profusely.

"Hello?! Racheal, what's wrong? Are you okay?!" Waiting for a response my disparity putting my heart straight into my throat. Thoughts roaming my mind of what could've made her so upset. "Racheal! Are you there?!" I say again as my voice begins to crack in worry.

The line suddenly disconnects as I look at the 'Unknown Caller' flash on the screen as it hangs up. My mind begins to wonder 'if that were her why would she have called from a blocked number?' I race through my cells phone book to her number as I press to call her back. "This is Racheal, please leave your name and number and I will be sure to get back to you." Now my heart racing, 'why would it go to voice mail immediately if she just called me or was that even her.'

I jump out of bed throwing on a pair of pants, rush over to my front door grabbing my car keys. I rush out to my car sliding into the seat and starting the ignition, trying to call her again, "This is Rach...." I hang up as I back out of my drive heading down the road at a steady speed.

Half way down the road I get a call 'Unknown Caller.' I look at it for a second before answering. "Hello? Racheal is this you?!" I hear a slight sobbing on the other end, I listen more closely as I hear the flapping of wings in the background. The line goes silent and disconnects. I press my foot heavier on the gas I speed past stop signs and red lights.

The streets start to fill with a slight fog, getting thicker the further I go. I begin to hear a tapping on my back window as I notice a grey glow catching my speed. I can see it through the rearview mirror as it catches up to my drivers window. The grey glow looks more like a orb or a eye staring into me.

All of a sudden I hear a loud, 'Beeeeeeep!' I look straight a head in mere seconds of headlights about to collide into me. Swerving I can feel my car turn vigorously to the side as it flips. My windshield shattering as I tumble round and round over the road. Hitting my head hard on the steering wheel, everything goes black.

I can feel someone holding me close, water dripping steadily upon my forehead. I hear a familiar voice as I attempt to open my eyes. "Help...! Please help!" My eyes' meagerly opening I see birds above head, their grey eyes shining from the green light flashing....

Hearing my phone begin to vibrate on the table next to my bed I jolt up and look at the screen. 'Unknown Caller' I nervously answer. "Help... Please help!"
