There was only one rule: don't open the door. This rule has been repeatedly engraved into Lucy's mind by her parents for the past 6 months. An outbreak occurred, it all happened so fast, there are few survivors, and the rest, aren't exactly dead.

The only thing we know about the undead is that they try to infect and kill anything that moves. Lucy and her parents found a small abandoned cabin to take shelter in after the outbreak, food is running low, so her parents have to break the first rule, open the door. They need to go out and find any food they can.

There are about 2 hours of daylight left when Lucy's parents say their goodbyes, they embrace each other, but before letting go her mother says "Do not open the door for any reason at all, promise me" with tears falling down her cheeks, lucy says I promise. as the door closes behind them she can't help but think this is the last time she sees her parents. Lucy paces back and forth while watching dusk fast approaching, every minute feels like an eternity, and then she hears something, shuffling of feet, inching closer and closer to the door.

She places her hand over her mouth to not make a sound, then a bang, the sound of a body hitting against the door, trying to get in but unable to. Lucy makes her way to a spacing in the boarded-up windows, her parents have returned, but they are no longer her parents.

Lucy succumbs to the realization that this is the end. She takes a deep breath and opens the door, now face to face with her inevitable fate, tears run down her cheeks, and she walks outside and closes the door behind her.
