The Book of Beyond

Lost In The Pages....

By KomalPublished about a year ago 2 min read

In a dimly lit attic, hidden beneath years of dust and memories, Layla stumbled upon an ancient, leather-bound book. She felt a strange pull, like it was calling to her. The cover had no title, no author—only the faint, enigmatic symbol of a star. She hesitated but finally opened it, her heart racing with inexplicable fear and curiosity.

As Layla flipped through the brittle pages, she realized the book contained stories of travelers who had crossed realms, vanished, or glimpsed something far beyond human understanding. One story in particular caught her attention—a tale of a hidden door between worlds, accessible only to those who were "worthy."

Intrigued, she continued to read. The book described a surreal journey, leading its protagonist into an endless void where galaxies spilled from the sky like ink and constellations whispered secrets into the dark. Layla's gaze settled on a particular line:

"For the seeker who follows the stars, the path will reveal itself."

Just then, something extraordinary happened. The book seemed to come alive beneath her fingers, pulsating like a heartbeat. The pages trembled, and a crack appeared in the paper, expanding like a tear in the fabric of reality. Through the fissure, she saw a vast, otherworldly cosmos, swirling with colors she’d never seen. She could smell the metallic scent of stardust and hear a distant, haunting melody.

Before she could react, a narrow railroad track appeared, stretching from her reality into the void. It led directly into the book. Her hand shook, but she felt compelled to step forward. The track was endless, leading her through constellations and nebulae, each step taking her deeper into the mystery. At times, she saw shadows moving beside her, remnants of the previous travelers the book had ensnared.

Suddenly, she noticed someone up ahead—a figure in a white hoodie, walking with the same hypnotized expression she wore. Layla called out, but her voice was lost in the silence. She walked faster, the stars blurring around her, until she was close enough to reach out. The figure turned. It was her own face staring back, expressionless and void of life.

Panic gripped her as she realized she was caught in a loop, bound to walk these tracks for eternity, each step pulling her further from the life she knew. She tried to turn back, but the path had vanished behind her, leaving only the abyss.

In the last page of the book, now laying open and motionless on the attic floor, the words faded in as if freshly written:

"Another seeker has joined the stars."

The book closed itself, waiting for the next traveler to discover its pages.

You had me with ~no title and no author~. That cover photo, made me want a book that looks like that, one that I could literally travel into. Travels crossed, vanished or glimpsed. I love that you expanded the possibility, deepening the story and causing it to induce both fear and wonder. Then you brought the galaxies down to us, the revelation of that one line pulls me in even further. The shadows that were moving beside her, gives the story a darker tone which I love. It's giving me chills, everything I thought I knew is now shattered. The one in the hoodie was her?! Then the fact that it's white makes me wonder if it's a good place. But then it's starting to sound like an unreliable narrator, due to the words that followed. I am flabbergasted at the end. It leaves me with questions, a perfect cliffhanger. This was unpredictable and very well written.
