Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise Claim Fall 2026 Slot
In the meantime, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled film, starring Tom Cruise, will take over the fall 2026 spot previously reserved for The Batman sequel. The movie, which marks Iñárritu's return to English-language filmmaking, is set for an October 2, 2026 release. This will be Cruise’s first film under his new deal with Warner Bros., and the story follows the most powerful man in the world on a mission to save humanity from disaster.
The Batman Sequel Faces Production Delays
The Batman sequel has faced multiple delays since it was first announced, with Reeves taking his time to perfect the script. James Gunn, co-chief of DC Studios, explained the lengthy timeline, stating that once the script is finalized, it will take about two years for pre-production, shooting, and post-production on such large-scale projects.
Other Film Date Changes
Meanwhile, Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon Ho and starring Robert Pattinson, has swapped release dates with Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan. Mickey 17 is now set to open on March 7, 2025, while Sinners will debut on April 18, 2025. The switch was due to delays in Sinners' production, as Coogler opted to shoot the movie on film, creating challenges with limited lab resources.
Iñárritu and Cruise Lead a Star-Studded Cast
Cruise’s new film, which also stars Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed, is expected to be a major event in 2026, marking an exciting collaboration between the legendary director and one of Hollywood's biggest stars.
