The Baby Shower

our carnal fears

By Lauren MaltonPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Nobody could have predicted what happened. The sound it made, the scene it caused.

Sarah had always feared babies, feeling discontent with the magnitude of their existence. Of their fragility.

She didn’t even know the mother—just some cousin of her boyfriend.

Why did she insist that Sarah hold her? Like every woman was dying to have a baby.

She should have sat down, refused. But instead, Sarah received the baby, taking note of her striking blue eyes.

Stepping back so the other women could coo, Sarah didn’t notice the puddle of spilt sangria in time.
