A journey about to take across the ocean blue,
a miracle was about to happen, to think no one even knew.
Although a very young couple, only married 2 years the journey to a new place was the most exciting thing, Merritt and Evelyn would ever take in their life.
As the large ship was boarding the passengers, Merritt and Evelyn Carr were so eager to be placed on the upper deck. Merritt was the son of William and Sarah Carr. They owned a very large Textile Manufacturing Company.
Merritt had learned everything he could about the textile company, from the ground up. In his teens he started in the cutting room of the fabric, later he went into the manufacturing room where they made drapes, comforters and much more.
As for Evelyn, when she was done school she had a position in the accounting department of the company.
The two of them knew each other from work but also from going to similar gatherings in the community. It was not long before they had started dating, and attending functions at work.
The Perfect Match
Everyone knew that the two of them were truly a beautiful match for each other. They complimented each other wherever or whatever they were doing together in life.
They were married in Spring in a beautiful garden overlooking the ocean. With the lilacs all around, the bride in such a beautiful lace gown (once her mom had worn), the wedding was like that of a fairytale.
After the ceremony was over, Merritt's parents asked the two of them if they were interested in travelling on "The Big Ship" when it was done being built. They wanted them to think about taking their Manufacturing to a new land and they would own and run it.
Two Years Later
The dream had finally come true and now that they were at the upper-class level, they could not wait to see what the future had to bring.
Now everything was going in a perfect direction until Evelyn was noticing many changes in her health. The doctor on the boat kept saying it was seasickness that many of the passengers had experienced, that she did not need to be too concerned. In days she would be feeling much better.
Trying to enjoy herself and do things with her husband started to become harder and harder. Eventually, Evelyn started to stay in their room more and more and not even get out of bed.
As a rule on the ship, Evelyn had to be taken from their room and put in an isolated room below the bellows. Making sure it was not anything that anyone else could get and trying to help her to feel better.
On the other hand, Merritt was able to stay above, he was in good health and had no signs of being sick. This gave him time to do paperwork and mingle with others that were looking for jobs with their company.
Hidden Below
Sweet Evelyn was so warned and tired, that she was starting to eat a bit but not as much as they wanted her to. The doctors noticed that she had a lot of swelling in her tummy but had figured it had a lot to do with not eating and feeling so sick.
The trip that she had planned on travelling with her husband, turned into a nightmare. Not seeing him, not hearing his voice or even a hug became even more of a mental impact on her.
Below the bellows became her home. Within a few days, she started to feel a bit better. They allowed Merritt a small visit and it made her feel so happy. He reassured her they had lots of time to be together, that only she needed to rest and feel better.
Almost Death To A Miracle
The rocking of the ship was terrible, and for Evelyn, it was even more of a calm before a storm. They knew the ship was in trouble, everyone was told to stay in their chambers until they were further notified.
As for Evelyn, she had a nurse beside her and it was a good thing. Apparently after being diagnosed with being seasick to possibly an illness that was contagious. Evelyn found out she was about to deliver a baby.
Due to the circumstances, Merritt could not leave the room. Good thing the delivery went well.
The ship was in trouble, but the miracle in the bellow was a beautiful baby boy. Evelyn held him so close, a dream come true and she could not wait for Merritt to meet their son.
Bang, slam the ship had hit something really hard. Again it was throwing everyone around. Merritt hung on tight to the cabinet in the bathroom, below Evelyn held her son tight while the nurse sheltered them.
Everyone On Deck Now
As they heard the announcement the only thing Merritt could think of was Evelyn. Sadly he was rushed out and put on a ship and lowered below.
Scared and afraid for his wife, he kept yelling to go and get his wife but it was too late and his boat was already on its way to the coast.
While Evelyn was brought up, the ship had already begun to start sinking. The nurse helped Evelyn into a boat while she waited back to help others.
Evelyn was scared and afraid, looking around for Merritt she became so concerned.
Soon her boat was rowing away with the hopes it would make it to the coast.
Shattered Dreams - Fears And Hope
Merritt arrived safely on the coast of the States. Standing there he was frightened and afraid. He felt so much anger for not going and bringing his beautiful wife with him.
Word came to those who had arrived that there had been several deaths, that the ship had hit a large piece of ice and then some were able to be rescued, while others were not.
Merritt went into shock first, later he decided he was not giving up hope. He was destined to find Evelyn.
A few more small boats came to shore, many hungry and very exhausted. Merritt checked to see if Evelyn was on any of them, she was nowhere to be found.
Tears rolled down his cheeks as he continued to help many off of the boats. Wrapping them in blankets and giving them a bit of food. He only wished he could wrap the love of his life in a nice blanket, holding her close and never letting her go.
The Bell Was Ringing - Last Boat Ashore
Merritt felt like his heart was ready to jump right out of his body in fear. The closer they saw the little boat coming, the more fear came over him. All of the what-ifs came to the surface. What would he do if his Evelyn never returned?
As the waves kept getting higher, the boat kept floating all over the place. At times they lost sight of it and then before they knew it, the boat was almost at the shores base.
Several of the men on shore ran to the boat as fast as they could, Merritt included. They all pulled the boat onto the sand, helping the very weak and frail passengers out one at a time.
Some of the passengers that were too weak to walk were put on boards and carried, others were helped to the dock.
Merritt was helping so much that he didn't think of looking for Evelyn. They needed all the help they could get.
Suddenly they heard a baby's cry, a very loud cry.
Looking over, before his very eyes - Evelyn was standing there. He ran so fast to her and hold her. Quickly wrapping a blanket around her he was surprised to see the baby.
Evelyn looked up with the biggest smile ever, "Merritt I would like to introduce you to your son."
"My son", how, like I mean I knew you were really sick but when?"
"Our son is the biggest miracle ever, everyone thought I had everything from seasickness to a contagious illness. To think it was a miracle, we are parents,"
"The Biggest Miracle Of All"
Although the ship was ready to sink, fear came over everyone.
A new life came into the world, to think it was the birth of a beautiful son.
