Summer Rain & College Nostalgia
A Sudden Shower of Memories
The air was thick with heat—sultry, sticky, the kind of summer that makes you question every life choice that led you outdoors. And then, as if the universe sensed our collective exhaustion, the skies darkened. A gust of wind, a distant rumble, and then—rain. Heavy, sudden, unexpected.
The kind of downpour that sends shivers through your overheated skin. From burning sweat to blissful chill in minutes. The scent of wet earth mixed with the fragrance of brewing chai from street vendors.
Rain & College Days: A Time Capsule
The storm was more than just relief—it was a portal back to those golden days. Huddling in the college bus, laughing at the drenched streets outside. Watching tiny raindrops race down fogged-up windows. The thrill of stepping onto campus in damp clothes, the comforting warmth of canteen coffee (more water than coffee, but somehow perfect in that moment).
Then came lunch—hot biryani, steaming from steel trays in the canteen. Despite fierce competition for the best plate, the first bite was always worth the battle. Sitting with friends, trading complaints about professors, fighting off sleep as the rain drummed gently against the windows.
Evening Tea, Deep Talks & The Ultimate Betrayal
By evening break, we’d washed our faces in cold water—a desperate attempt to shake off the biryani-induced drowsiness. Tea and samosa in hand, we swapped stories, daydreamed about our futures, gossiped about crushes we only had the courage to admire from a distance.
The evening air was thick with anticipation, mingling with the scent of fresh rain that drummed against the windows. We sat in front of the TV, eyes glued to the scrolling headlines, hearts racing in quiet hope. The downpour outside felt like nature’s own rebellion against the exhausting summer—surely, surely the government would declare a holiday!
The waiting stretched on. News anchors droned on about politics, sports, and irrelevant forecasts, but we knew what we wanted—the golden words of freedom. A school holiday. But more importantly… Would college be off too?
The night passed, the rain continued, and sleep came in restless patches. Morning arrived with the lingering chill of last night's storm, the scent of wet earth hanging in the air. The TV flickered back to life—this was it.
The headline rolled in: "Government declares holiday for school students."
A collective cheer erupted. Victory! Freedom! Sweet, sweet sleep awaited us!
And then… the betrayal.
"Colleges will function as usual."
Silence.
A betrayal deeper than the real thunder that shook the skies. A storm had raged through the night, but this news? This was the REAL disaster.
And so, with crushed dreams and reluctant steps, we trudged on—into the cold, wet morning, braving one of life’s biggest disappointments.
A Rainy Evening & Timeless Nostalgia
Now, years later, watching the rain brings back every memory in high definition. The bittersweet thrill of youth, the warmth of friendships, the exhaustion of exams and assignments, the simple joys of hot molaga bajji and tea as we laughed and hoped for just one more holiday.
College life—a chaotic, wonderful, unforgettable paradise. And on rainy days, it all comes rushing back.
