“Now, where were we? . . . Yes, how we met.
It was the summer of . . . What year did we meet Tabitha?”
“I don’t know. I believe sometime in the 1900’s. It has to be in one of those years.
“Well anyways, one day in the beginning of summer we met. I was so nervous that day. It was the first day I was ever going to the community pool by myself. Usually, I would go with my parents, cousins, or friends. But that day both of my parents were away on some trip that I cannot recall right now. My cousins did not come to visit this year. And my all of my friends went to camp. So, I was by myself walking to the community pool in my, at the time, cutest bikini. I made the bikini top double as a real top and wore my high waisted purple skirt.”
“Well, I remember that day I had a boy named Kellie pick me to go to the community pool. He was such a sweet boy; too bad I had no interest in him other than a little fun for a day. Those were fun times for me. I had different girl or boy pick me every day that summer. I don’t know how they arranged it, but they did, and boy was it fun. Make-out sessions in the pool, the bathroom, sometimes we did a little bit more if you know what I mean. When we weren’t doing that, they would just admire me like I was their goddess.
But besides that, that day I went to the community pool with Kellie, and we walked and talked all the way there.”
“I on the other hand always walked to the community pool alone, so that day wasn’t any different for me. I grabbed the book I was reading that day, my sunglasses, and my towel on the rare chance that I would actually go in the pool and made my way to the community pool.”
“When I finally got there my nervous had not gone away, in fact they had been heighten by the amount of people there, and there were a lot of people. I quickly found a seat and stayed there until I felt comfortable. Once I was comfortable, and honey it took me a while, I finally took off my skirt and dove headfirst in the pool. Once I was in, it took me no time to get comfortable in the water. I was swimming to my heart’s content. Then out of nowhere this boy introduces himself to me as if he was James bond. He goes my name is Clive, John Clive. And I challenge you to a swimming competition.
I say the only thing I can think of what do I get when I win?
This was crazy no one, especially not a boy, would come up and talk to me like they knew me before. I was so excited to how it was going to play out.
He goes, that’s if you win and I will buy us a candy and take you out tonight, but if I win you have to buy us a candy and take me out tonight.
I said deal, now mind you I was completely confident I was going to win. I mean I swim professionally, but on the other hand I was completely flustered under all of his attention.
Anyways, we swam from the shallow end to the deep end and back to the shallow end. I surprisingly lost, but only like one tenth of a second to him. (Side note for as long as I’ve known he never lets me forget that he was able to beat me that day.)
So, since I lost, I grabbed by towel and headed to the counter to buy a candy for John and me.
“I arrived at the community pool and found a seat in seconds. I placed my towel on the chair and proceeded to read my book. I was consumed by this book; it had my complete and utter attention. It was one of those times when you read a book, but at some point, it feels more like you’re watching a movie than reading a book. Before I knew it, I was done with the book. So, I decided to get up and get a snack at the counter.”
“When we had arrived at the community pool, we split up. I went to the bathroom, and he dropped off our things on a chair before meeting me in the bathroom for a little vertical tango. Once we finished up and cleaned up any mess, cause the bathroom is gross enough without the sweat of a tango. I having a major sweet tooth went to the counter to get a candy.
When I reached the counter there were only two other people there. We all wanted the same discontinued brand of gummy worms. The employee kindly told us they don’t sell that shit anymore, pick something else to buy. He said it in such a nice and polite way we just picked another candy and walked away laughing at what had just happened.
To my surprise we were all going in the same direction.
That is how we met. Over discontinued gummy worms. As Darling said were going in the same direction. We laughed and exchanged names, and contact information. After that we went back to our benches surrounding the pool. I laid on my towel eating my pretzels for another ten minutes before deciding to go back home.
I went to find Kellie on our bench. We stayed in the pool until it was closed.
I went to find John. We ended up sharing the snacks I bought at the counter. We wound up walking around the neighborhood, until it the sun started to go down then we went home.
That is the end of that story.
