Split Pressure

Twin Revenge

By Christina Nelson Published about a year ago 6 min read

Then...

Shh.. they're coming

Kaya and her twin sister Akiya huddled up in the corner in their room. Their parents came stomping up the stairs, screaming and barking instructions. There was another child outside with them, crying.

The twins stayed in the corner huddled up with their eyes closed. It suddenly got quiet and Kaya, the older twin, knew something was amiss. She maneuvered her sister behind her and prepared for the random punishment she knew was coming.

The door knob started to turn and Akiya held her breath. When the door slowly swung open, there was a woman standing in the doorway. She had on a bright yellow dress and a white sunhat. In one hand she had a bouquet of daisies and in the other she had a cracked glass vase. The hat was tilted low on her face so you couldn't really see her expression, but her stance told them everything they needed to know.

"Which one of you little brats broke my vase?"

Neither of them answered her as she slowly approached them. Behind her they could see one of the other kids passed out in the hallway. As she approached them, Kaya could see blood on the vase.

Tuh... she did it herself.

Akiya grabbed her sister's hand tight as the woman stood directly over them, raising the hand with the vase in it over her head.

Now...

"Girls! It's lunch time!" a motherly voice called out from the kitchen.

Kaya and Akiya, now bout 18 had come in from the front yard. They had been out all morning working in their garden and tending to the horses in the barn. When they came in and removed their sunhats to reveal their bright colored hair, their mother simply rolled her eyes and continued to set the table.

"Why did y'all have to pick those colors? she asked with a slight smile.

"Well what's wrong with 'em?" Kaya asked as she threw her short rainbow hair into a low bun.

"That's what I wanna know? Akiya piled on. Her hair was a combination of blue, purple and pink. It was all the way down her back and she decided to put it into a long braid.

"Not saying anything is wrong, it's just loud."

"Like their personalities." A man responded as he walked in from the living room, kissing all three of them and sitting at the table.

The four of them sat down and started to eat. Akiya and Kaya making glances at each other during the meal.

The man and woman, their parents, didn't really notice. They kept their heads down and enjoyed their lunch. It was quiet in the room. Not like an awkward quiet but you could hear the outside loud and clear through the doors.

"So what do you girls have planned for the rest of the day?" their father asked as he pulled out his phone to check news and apps.

"Oh nothing, we have some homework to do that's all." Akiya responded as she picked up her plate to take to the sink.

He nodded in response as he motioned towards his plate. Kaya picked it up and went to the sink as well as they both washed up the dishes. Akiya walked over and got her mother's empty plate and was met with an angry stare.

"Homework?" Her mother asked in a low voice.

Kaya put the plate on the drying tray and started to make her way slowly to the table. Their father put his phone down and looked at his wife with confusion.

"Yes ma. Homework." Akiya responded meeting her mother's gaze without blinking.

Kaya stopped moving and her eyes fell on her father who was slowly reaching in his pocket. She already knew what was going to come next and this time it wasn't happening.

He moved quickly, grabbing Akiya by the throat from behind as their mother started to get up, but Kaya was faster. Before they knew it, both parents were levitating over the kitchen table.

Panicked, they looked over at the sink and saw Kaya's arm extended towards them.

"Put us down!" They screamed.

I'm sick of this.

She threw them against the wall head first knocking them out. When they finally came to a few hours later, they were tied to the dining chairs and the girls sat in front of them, reading books.

"Ah, so glad you didn't die from that. That would have irritated me. You deserve so much worse." Kaya smiled as she looked at them over the top of her book. She never put the book down but they could hear her snicker behind the pages.

"Let us the fuck go, or you will regret it," their father threatened. But the girls didn't flinch. As both parents struggled to get out of the chairs the girls had finally finished reading and put their books down.

"It took us so long to put this plan together. You really think we're afraid of you?" Akiya asked as she placed the book on the side table and stood up walking over to them with smile on her face. Her fingertips gliding over their legs as she circled them.

Kaya left the room, leaving her sister in the room with them. Her mother looked as if she wanted to say something, but turned her head when Akiya looked at her.

"So many kids. You killed so many of them. For no reason."

"They deserved it. Don't know why we never killed you," her mother responded with her head down.

"Oh I would never let you do that. I was always too late to save the others. You killed them away from us. But when it came to us, you somehow always seemed to forget what you were in the room for."

Akiya could see the shock coming over her mother's face when she realized what was happening.

"How?!"

Her father, realizing the same thing, angrily attempted to get himself untied from the chair. Each fail fueled him more.

"Mnemokinesis of course. I've been able to manipulate your memories for years now. I finally learned to control it after you killed the last one with that damn glass vase."

She could see the anger washing over her mother as she joined her husband in attempting to get out of the chair.

Kaya walked back in with a smile on her face,

"Ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be."

"Daniel and Cali Ono please listen to me when I say this, you will never hurt another child. Pillars of the community? Ha! Everyone will know the type of people you really are and the type of people you have always been." Kaya announced as she pulled out a rope with a noose tied at the end.

"You really think we're gonna kill ourselves? You're just as stupid as you were the day we let you color your hair" the father laughed.

Kaya put herself in front of him with a huge, evil smile on her face,

"You can go last."

Just then Cali started to scream, blood coming out of her ears. She fell over in pain, still tied to the chair. Daniel looked down at her in fear as he listened to her blood curdling screams. Kaya went over to her with the rope as Daniel started to plead for his wife's life. She put the rope around her neck and stood over by her sister. She extended her arm, lifting her mother in the air with the rope as it tightened around her neck.

Telekinesis... perfected at the age of 15.

As their mother loudly choked to death, Akiya went to the living room and grabbed the shotgun that her father kept loaded and near the door. She brought it back into the kitchen and sat it in between his legs. He looked at her with tears and fear in his eyes.

"Oh, don't be afraid now. You don't get to be afraid. You took away precious and innocent lives so that you could feel something. Now you can feel this."

She looked him in the eyes, altering his memories, making him relive what he did to the children over the past 18 years but from their perspective. She planted the false memory of him killing his entire family and manipulated his desperate need to die. She patted his leg and made sure the gun was in position before she loosened the restraints.

Kaya meanwhile had laid her mother gently down on the floor and untied her from the chair. The two of them hadn't even made it out the door before they heard the gunshot and his body fall to the floor.

They laughed as they went to the barn to let the horses run free and they sat and painted each other's faces.

"What do we do next, Split?"

"What we always do, make them feel Pressure"

They laughed and walked away arm in arm.

Crazed and happy.

Later...

Shadows extended over the house and darkness slithered into the kitchen.

"Hmm... what a mess. And who, pray tell, did in 17 and 18 before I did?"
