Spatial DNA:

the element of intimacy.

By VoiceOfAnOutlierPublished 9 months ago 1 min read

Humans first relationship was not with people but with space; life gave us space in the body of our mothers to grow into self before allowing us to meet them in person. To enter into a relationship without knowing one's spatial preference is like diving into a body of water without knowing its depth. All physical beings have a spatial DNA which determines the space in which we want to be known and love.

Some people are like the sun; loving them too close is toxic. Loving them from a distance is the only healthy practice. While others are like water, we've to love them close to grasp their full essence. We cannot love everyone in the same space. We love people in the space in which they want to be loved. But if we don't know our spatial DNA, which helps to shape our relationships, then our relationships will be plagued with spatial issues.

Relationship is a merger of personal spaces which house two distinct egos, but during this merger, many forget to leave space so that their relationship can breathe. When a relationship has no pores, intimacy will die from a lack of space to breathe.

Intimacy is a voyage through the personal space of others; how close we get to others depends not on our relationship with people but rather on our relationship with space. Intimacy is more a spatial experience than a physical one. Before we can know the caressing touch of others, we've to know how close they can get to us without breaching the personal space of our ego.

What is your spatial DNA? To this question, most people don't know the answer. We tend to wrap ourselves around each other like a double helix when we're in a relationship, strangling intimacy with the same old traditional hold. But when we realize that we're not only physical beings but also spatial beings with spatial wants and needs, we will adjust our hold on intimacy to fit each other own spatial nature.
