They broke up in a small town where everybody knew everybody. But he did not know that when they broke up, she was going to find somebody so soon. He did not realize that he would soon have to see them everywhere he went. And when he did think about her moving on with someone, he did not think it would be someone that he knew.

Sam was a small-town country boy, not a hick by any means, just a country boy from a small town. He had never even been to the city. Aimee was a small-town girl, who had never left the small town of Charles town and she yearned for bigger and better things. Sam did not know how deep that yearning went. And he had not learned yet that she had been seeing Ant this whole time.

He saw her everywhere. When he saw her, he saw him too. The man who had taken everything from him. The man who taken the woman he wanted to marry. And His best friend Cody, who knew everything and failed to tell him. He had learned all of this within days of the breakup. He felt like the last four years he spent with her had been wasted. Sam felt so betrayed by Aimee, and by his friends.

One day sitting at a red light waiting for the light to change, a car came up next to his. When he sees who is in the car, he does a double take. They were holding hands, they were laughing. They were talking. Sam looks over at them carrying on. “Come on green light.” He thinks to himself.

The green light finally flashes, and Sam looks to his right and takes off, racing home to have a drink and staying in the house by himself until he figured out how he was going to move on. He took his phone off the hook so that he would not be bothered.

Six weeks later…

“Hi, can we talk?”

“Okay, why?” Sam asked

“I am sorry about what happened.”

“Do you mean that you cheated on me? Or that you got found out?”

“Sam, why do you have to act like that? I said I am sorry, and I mean it.”

Just then a woman comes over and joins Sam. “Babe, are you ready?” The woman asked.

He kisses her on the side of her head, and says, “I am baby, I was just saying goodbye to someone I used to know.” He turned to Aimee, “Look, I am happy. I do not want to be your friend, but I also do not wish you any misery. Where I am at now in my life is where I am meant to be.” He looks at the woman by his side and takes her hand. Aimee sees the ring on her finger. “You see, I found the love of my life. She is going to be my wife, she is going to be the mother of my babies, and all my dreams have come true. I hope that you find what you need. I got everything I want. I wish you the best in all of your endeavors.”

Sam and his fiancé turn to walk away. “Sam!” Aimee yelled after him. He turned around. “I am really happy for you.” Sam turned around for a second, and then walked off.

Later at the home he shared with his fiancé…

“You do know how much I love you right?”

“Of course, I do.”

“I never want you to forget, so if you ever forget, or feel less than loved, come hit me in the head.”

“Ha-ha.” She laughed. “I promise I will.”

She kissed him then laid her head down on his chest and they fell asleep together.
