Six fascinating mysteries that still lack an explanation
Science has yet to unravel

While science has made significant progress in understanding many phenomena, there are certain mysteries that remain unsolved. Share your own theories or solutions after reading these mysteries.
Solway Firth Cosmic Man
In 1964, Jim Templeton visited his friend in Solway Firth, Cumbria, with his wife and daughter Elizabeth. While taking pictures of his daughter in a new dress, he unknowingly captured a strange figure standing behind Elizabeth. Templeton claims that he did not see anyone else that day aside from his wife and two others in a nearby car. However, the photo showed an ominous presence that confused him. To UFO enthusiasts, the figure appeared to be wearing a white suit and a helmet, resembling someone in space. Despite Templeton's confusion, both the Kodak studio and the police declared that the photo was nothing out of the ordinary, even offering a reward to anyone who could prove it was fake. Nevertheless, the photo caused a media storm and appeared in news reports around the world.
Two days after Templeton took the photo, the technical director of the planned Blue Streak rocket launch in Womera, South Australia, was reportedly stunned after seeing the "man in space" photo from Solway Firth. Some reports claimed that the figure in Templeton's photo was oddly similar to the people who appeared at the missile test site. Additionally, the Blue Streak rocket launch station had also been built at RAF Spadeadam, a few miles away from where Templeton took the photograph. Templeton was incidentally involved in a UFO sighting as well. While these coincidences are difficult to prove, they are certainly intriguing and strange.
Magnificent Clouds
The so-called "majestic" clouds in Northern Australia, known as "Kangolgi" to the Aboriginal people, are a fascinating natural phenomenon that still eludes a complete explanation. These clouds are tubular structures that can be thousands of kilometers long and travel at great speeds of up to 60 km/h. They are also accompanied by a quiet environment and are often seen in successive waves of up to 10 waves like giant ropes stretched across the sky. Roll clouds, as they are also known, are not unique to Northern Australia, as they also occur in other parts of the world such as over Lake Michigan.
Although roll clouds have been studied extensively, scientists are still trying to figure out why they form. In the case of Northern Australia, the prevailing theory is that a unique combination of land and sea creates the first cloud stream, and as nighttime temperatures drop, the air hits a warm layer on top of the water, creating a rolling pattern. However, this theory has yet to be conclusively proven, especially regarding roll clouds outside of Australia. These strange clouds can sometimes be accompanied by thunderstorms or form from sea breezes rolling along a central axis. Despite continued scientific study, roll clouds remain one of the many natural mysteries of the world.
Patomskiy crater
The origins of the Patomskiy crater, located in the remote North Irkutsk region of Siberia, have long puzzled scientists. The crater is megaphone-shaped, standing at 40 meters tall and 101 meters wide. Local legends describe it as a dangerous place where people and animals inexplicably disappear.
In 1949, geologist Vadim Kompakov conducted the first study of the site, speculating that it might be an archaeological artifact or a mine shaft, but subsequent examinations ruled out these possibilities. Instead, a widely-held theory is that the crater was caused by a piece of space rock from the Tunguska meteorite that exploded in 1908.
Despite conducting several investigations, the exact origins of the crater remain unknown. During a major scientific expedition in 2005, geologist Eugeny Vorobiev suddenly collapsed and died of a heart attack as his team approached the site.
Subsequent investigations in 2006, 2008, and 2010 collected samples from the crater and nearby trees. The research uncovered evidence of rapid, unnatural tree growth, similar to that seen in the forests near Chernobyl after the nuclear disaster. This has sparked further speculation that the site could have been an ancient nuclear power plant or a UFO containing nuclear fuel that was buried underground. However, these ideas remain unverified, and the Patomskiy crater still holds many mysteries.
Lady Babushka
On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas while his motorcade passed Delaney Plaza. Thousands of onlookers lined the streets to witness the historic moment, unaware of the tragedy that was about to occur.
Following the shooting, police launched a search for witnesses who may have caught the event on film. Among the witnesses was a mysterious woman known as Lady Babushka, so named for the Russian pride headscarf she wore. She had been standing on the grass between Elm Street and Main Street, filming the event as it happened.
Despite efforts to identify her and review her footage, her true identity and the contents of her footage remain unknown some 60 years later.
Several bystanders captured her image in their own footage, including Dallas resident Marie Muchmore, who filmed Lady Babushka wearing a brown coat with her arms raised in front of her face. Another bystander, US postal service provider Mark Bell, captured her with her back to the camera, moving closer to the street after the shots rang out.
Most notably, Beverly Oliver, a former dancer and singer at a nightclub, claimed to have filmed the entire assassination with a Super 8 Yoshika camera. However, she said that two FBI agents seized the footage before it could be made public. While Oliver claimed that her Super 8 Yoshika footage was shot before the camera hit the market, there is no evidence to back up her account.
Her testimony sparked conspiracy theories about Lady Babushka's true identity, with some suggesting that she may have been a Russian spy or an assassin posing as a camera operator. Some even speculated that the person in question could have been a man dressed as a woman, given the loose-fitting nature of the clothes they wore. Sadly, the identity of Lady Babushka remains unknown to this day, confounding historians and conspiracy theorists alike.
Hipster fashion ahead of its time
The photo of the man wearing a shirt with sunglasses and a modern camera around his neck, taken in 1941 in Gold Bridge, Canada, caused a stir online when it was discovered in a digitized collection titled "Their past lives here" in 2010.
His hipster style seemed ahead of its time and sparked speculation that he somehow traveled through time. Many quickly assumed the photo was manipulated via Photoshop until they learned that it originated from an original collection at the museum and was first made public in 2004. While there is no way to know the identity of the person, some argue that the items featured in the photo, such as the team logo t-shirt, sunglasses, and camera, were actually available at the time but just not widely used.
Kodak produced several cameras in 1941, and Montreal Maroons hockey team shirts were also available at that time. However, the style of the sunglasses was not popular in the 1940s, and it wasn't until the 1960s that sunglasses became more fashionable.
As such, it's difficult to definitively say whether the man in the photo was a fashion-forward individual of his time or someone who had the ability to travel through time. Ultimately, it remains a mystery and subject to interpretation.
Guardian angel

The clip depicts a shop owner, Serdar Binici, standing outside his shop in Turkey's Tellidere Mahallesi district when a mysterious man walked past him and tapped him on the shoulder. Just as this happened, a truck carrying a giant metal gate appeared to be heading straight for him from the back of the car. However, the gate narrowly missed him by just a few centimeters.
Serdar was left amazed and looked around for his savior but the mysterious man in black was nowhere to be found. The truck driver later visited Serdar's shop to apologize for the shocking incident, but Serdar never saw the man in black again.
The video of the incident has sparked a lot of speculation, with some people suggesting that the mysterious man could be Serdar's guardian angel or a time traveler, or even a future version of Serdar himself. Others argue that this was just a coincidence and nothing unusual. Regardless, Serdar remains deeply grateful to the stranger who possibly saved his life.
