SHE FOLLOWED ME HOME – ch 5

Brian laughed as he stood to grab his daughter from flying around the room and into a huge hug. “Where’s my ‘welcome home, daddy’ kiss? With everything that’s been going on, I didn’t get one before.”
She kissed his cheek, wrapped her arms around his neck and screeched, “Daddy, I’m an elf; I’m an elf! I have wings! I can fly! Isn’t this the greatest?”
As he laughed, he placed her feet on the floor, shook his head, put a finger in his ear, shook it as if to clean it and said, “Good grief, girl! You almost deafened me! I can see you’re an elf.”
He stopped laughing long enough to squat and look into his daughter's eyes. “Mia? Baby? Let’s put your excitement aside for a minute. In addition to feeling giddy, how do you feel physically? Pain? Dizziness? Nauseated? Anything?”
As her wings gracefully receded, she answered somberly, “Dad, at first, my back hurt. It was more itchy than painful. Once mom rubbed the cream on me, the pain and itch stopped but, I can’t explain it, but my back felt different. Then mom said I should think about touching the ceiling. I looked up and, dad, whoa! I was touching the ceiling! Next thing, I was flying around the room, but then I got scared and fell on the floor. Mom had “that talk” with me, then I was fine. She had me flying around the room much easier.”
Brian was about to caution his daughter about flying when Ian’s phone rang. Looking at the screen, Ian said to his brother. “Brian, normally, I’d excuse myself to take this call, but I have a feeling this is something you might want to hear.”
Brian looked curious but raised himself to sit next to his brother as Ian answered his phone.
“Well, hello, Aunt Finola! How are you? I’ve a feeling your sight is working overtime as I was going to call you tomorrow. Yes. Yes, he’s here. I’ll put the phone on speaker.”
Before he switched the call mode, he said, “Brian, this is da’s sister, Finola. I found her five months ago, and well...” He switched the phone’s mode to speaker.
“Okay, Aunt Finola, you’re on speaker now so we can all hear you.”
A strong but kindly-sounding voice came loudly through the small phone Ian laid on the table.
“Brian. I’m so glad Ian found you. I’ve been watching both of you through my mirror and knew you’d find each other. It’s about damn time, too! You kept me waiting long enough. I’ve the houses ready and will expect to see you sometime next month. I’m looking forward to meeting you and your families in person. Brian, go answer the damn door!”
With that, Finola disconnected the call, and the brothers looked at each other. Ian spoke, “What the hell was that all about?” Then he looked from Morena, to Mia, than back to Morena, “Oh sorry about the language.”
Morean laughed, “Don’t worry about it, Ian. She’s heard worse from me.”
As Brian stood, the doorbell chimed. He looked at Morena and said, “How did she do that?”
Ian answered and said, “Well, she did say she used her mirror and now, I’m convinced it wasn’t used to apply her makeup!”
Mia looked at her father and said, “Dad, I bet she has a scrying mirror! When we get to Ireland, can I have one?”
Brian stopped in his tracks and looked at Mia, “What? What?? How do you know about a scrying mirror? And why do you think we’re going to Ireland?”
Morena came in with a large manila envelope that had just been delivered and handed it to Brian.
As he opened it, in addition to several papers, there was a smaller envelope with two names written on the front: Ian and Brian. He handed that envelope to his brother as he began to read the letter.
“My dear nephews. It is with such a warmth in my heart that you boys finally found each other. While I have been able to watch over you both throughout the years, I never had the ability to interfere with your lives. Until now! My brother, your da, Marty purchased two large pieces of land more years ago than I can remember and asked me to promise that when the time came, I’d have a house built on each plot. One for each of you. It took me some time, planning, and intuition, but two years ago, I finally had the houses finished. The keys are in the small envelope.
The document you’re about to read gives you the free and clear title to those houses and their surrounding lands. There are only a few things you need to do. 1. Get your arses to Ireland. 2. Decide who gets which house and sign the appropriate papers; they’re similar so there should be an argument. 3. Plan to stay about one month. That should be enough time to decide if you’ll live here permanently. 4. Don’t forget to visit your aintin. And finally, 5. brush up on your Gaelic.
See you soon, my loves.
Brian and Ian looked at each other, then at their wives who looked at each other and smiled. Morean spoke first, “Guess we’re going to Ireland. I’ll put in my notice at work, then call a realtor and inquire about putting the house up for rent while we’re gone.”
Mia, with her now-excellent hearing, jumped up and down, screamed while clapping her hands, “Yes, hooray! We’re going to Ireland! Ready or not, Wicklow, here we come!”
Brian looked at his brother and murmured, “Ready or not, Wicklow, here we come? Wait! Wait a minute! Mia, how did you know we’re heading to Wicklow?”
