Jason had been walking for three days. His feet were sore, his legs were tired, and his stomach was growling. A hot meal and a steaming shower were teasing his imagination. The dusty country road he currently thought of as home offered no immediate prospects for any such comforts, but, nevertheless, it currently owned him.
Up ahead, a huge oak tree was projecting shade, and Jason was going to savor it. It was such a small comfort, given all he was lacking, but it prophesied a welcome relief.
