In the beginning, there was only darkness. Perpetual. Eternal. Infinite. The void of all stretched across the whole universe blanketing it in its cold embrace. Until, one day the god of light appeared for no reason at all.
This god appeared with a sudden bang, pushing back the darkness so quickly that it didn’t even know what was happening. He created suns which he scattered across space, each radiating god’s light to the far corners of the universe. In surprise the vast void looked around, shrinking back from the vile light. For anywhere it was, he could not touch.
Helpless the darkness watched as creatures began to form from the light, creating light sources of their own in time. Instead of steady quiet ebony, worlds were full of flickering, vibrant warmth. This made the void angry and it lashed out at the God who brought forth such a terrible change.
They fought for eons, but eventually the light began to fade, for the never ending truth which was darkness was too great to withstand. The blackness poured itself into the light and soon the two became one. In the fading moments of lights autonomy he asked why shadow would risk becoming one with him, but the void only laughed. He said, “you were only a part of me little one. For light is a fleeting moment in the vast sea of darkness which stands eternal. Everywhere you go, I now go too.”
Weak the light cried out “I will not allow you into the light!”
The darkness sneered, “then I will trail just out of reach. Everywhere you go, I go. Silently. Always.”
Looking back the light saw a shadow of himself stretch down the street behind him. Run as he might, he couldn’t shake it. For the dark is always there. And he makes shadows to remind us.
