By jiaPublished about a year ago 4 min read

Synopsis:

Elena Reyes, a fiercely independent event planner, is dragged into the glittering yet ruthless world of high society when her business takes on a high-profile client: the heir to one of the most powerful business dynasties, Dorian Vale. Known for his icy demeanor and impeccable control, Dorian hides a secret that could destroy his family’s legacy. When Elena inadvertently uncovers a piece of his dark past, Dorian offers her a deal: her silence in exchange for his patronage.

What begins as a transactional relationship quickly spirals into a battle of wills and emotions, as their undeniable chemistry clashes with the weight of their individual scars. Both are caught in a web of deception, ambition, and betrayal, but love might just be the most dangerous game of all.

Chapter 1: The Deal

The room was still, the only sound the subtle hum of the lights overhead. Dorian’s eyes never left hers as he took a slow step forward, closing the distance between them. Elena’s heart beat faster, not from fear, but from the magnetic pull she couldn’t deny.

“Do you know what happens when you delve into things that are none of your business?” Dorian’s voice was low, the dangerous edge in it almost imperceptible to anyone but her.

Elena swallowed, her mind racing. This wasn’t supposed to be how her night went. She had merely overheard a conversation between his bodyguards, caught a glimpse of a document with her client’s name on it, and curiosity had gotten the better of her.

“Are you threatening me?” she asked, her tone still firm but betraying a hint of uncertainty.

Dorian didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he took another step closer, his body now just inches from hers. He towered over her, and the air between them felt thick, charged.

“I’m offering you a choice, Elena,” he said, his words deliberate. “I don’t threaten people unless it’s absolutely necessary. But I will protect myself at all costs. And I believe you can be of use to me.”

She raised an eyebrow, trying to remain composed. “And what exactly do you want from me?”

He smiled, but there was no warmth in it. “Silence. Absolute silence.”

Elena frowned. “Silence about what?”

Dorian’s gaze turned icy, a flicker of something far darker in his eyes. “About things you weren’t meant to discover. About me. About my family. If you stay out of it, I’ll see to it that your business flourishes. I’ll make sure you’re never short of clients. But if you go digging any deeper…”

“Then what?” she challenged, her pulse racing, her instincts screaming that she should walk away. But her curiosity—damn it—her curiosity wouldn’t let her.

“Then you’ll regret it,” Dorian repeated, this time with an unspoken weight behind his words.

There was a long pause as they stood facing each other, the tension thick in the air. Elena’s eyes flickered to the door behind him, wondering if she could make a break for it. But the look in his eyes made her hesitate. Dorian Vale wasn’t just powerful; he exuded an air of authority that was impossible to ignore.

Her lips parted, but she closed them again, realizing that refusing him might be far more dangerous than agreeing. The world she had stumbled into tonight wasn’t one she could easily escape.

“And what happens if I accept?” she asked, her voice almost a whisper.

Dorian’s expression softened, but only slightly. “You’ll become a part of my world. And I’ll ensure you never have to worry about anything else again.”

Elena weighed his words. He wasn’t just offering her a business deal; he was offering power, influence—a whole new life. It was tempting, but she was no fool. Power came at a price.

“What’s the catch?” she asked.

Dorian stepped back slightly, his eyes narrowing as though he were assessing her, seeing how far she was willing to go. “The catch is this: once you enter my world, there is no turning back. You will never be able to walk away from me.”

Elena thought for a moment, her mind racing through the possibilities. Her company could go to new heights, but that came with its own dangers.

“And if I refuse?” she asked, her voice quieter this time.

“Then,” he said, his tone a shade colder, “I’ll make sure you regret it. But if you accept, I’ll make your life... a little easier. You’ll never need to struggle again. But,” he leaned in closer, his breath almost grazing her ear, “there’s always a price for what you want.”

She met his gaze, her mind spinning as she processed his words. Could she trust him? Would agreeing to this be the smartest choice?

“I need some time,” Elena said, forcing herself to remain calm. She wasn’t about to be rushed into anything.

Dorian’s lips curled into a slight smile, a smile that held no warmth but spoke of something far more dangerous. “Of course. You have until tomorrow. I suggest you make your decision wisely.”

Before she could respond, he turned and left the room, leaving her standing alone with her thoughts.
