Once upon a time, there was a small town called Ravenswood. It was a peaceful place, surrounded by dense forests that extended for miles. The people who lived there had always known that the woods were full of strange and terrible things, but they had never paid much attention to the rumors.
One summer, a young girl named Sarah moved to Ravenswood with her family. She was an adventurous and curious child, always eager to explore the world around her. One day, she decided to take a walk in the woods to see what lay beyond the edge of the town.
Sarah moved deeper into the woodland, feeling apprehensive as she did so. The light grew darker and the trees grew closer together. In the bushes, she heard weird voices and rustling. She abruptly came across an old cabin. It had a squeaky entrance, was undersized, and had broken windows.
After a brief moment of hesitation, Sarah decided to look into it. She pulled the door open and entered. The atmosphere was musty, and the ceiling was covered in cobwebs. She became aware of a strange object on the wall as her eyes adapted to the darkness. It was a sketch of a beast with gleaming eyes and razor-sharp jaws.
She heard a deep growl behind her all of a sudden. When Sarah turned around, she saw the creature from the drawing standing there. It was higher than she was and had shaggy fur on it. Its teeth glistened in the faint light, and its eyes burned like coals.
Sarah tried to run, but the thing was moving too quickly. With its hot breath on her heels, it pursued her through the trees. She dropped to the ground after tripping over a downed log. She was pinned to the ground when the thing pounced on her.
Sarah yelled for assistance, but no one was nearby to hear her. With its teeth within inches from her face, the beast drew forward. As she awaited the conclusion, she closed her eyes.
But instead of tearing her apart, the creature spoke. Its voice was low and gravelly, but surprisingly gentle.
"Do not be afraid," it said. "I mean you no harm."
Sarah opened her eyes, surprised. The creature stared down at her, its eyes filled with an odd mixture of curiosity and kindness.
"I have been watching you," it continued. "You are different from the others. You have a special gift."
Sarah was confused. "What gift?" she asked.
The monster drew nearer and spoke softly in her ear. "The magic's gift."
Sarah shrieked. Despite not knowing how to utilise magic, she had always been fascinated by it.
The monster grinned, showing off its pointed fangs. It said, "I can teach you." But you have to be prepared to take chances. Magic is not for those who are easily scared.
Sarah enthusiastically nodded. She would have done anything to acquire magic knowledge.
The monster thus served as her mentor. It demonstrated to her how to use the magic of the forest to cast spells. Sarah put in many hours of practise, perfecting her craft until she was a potent sorceress.
But as her powers grew, so did her hunger for more. She became obsessed with mastering every aspect of magic, no matter the cost. She began to use her powers for selfish reasons, hurting those around her in her quest for more knowledge.
The people of Ravenswood began to fear her, and soon Sarah was an outcast. But she didn't care. She was too consumed by her thirst for power.
One day, Sarah stumbled upon a book that promised to give her ultimate power. It was hidden deep in the forest, guarded by dark magic that few could withstand. But Sarah was determined. She used all her powers to break through the spells and reach the book.
