The winter air was quiet; the stars blanketed the frosty turquoise sky. The weather conditions this Christmas Eve were perfect, thought Santa. He gazed up at the stars that looked like they were twinkling a little brighter as if they knew it was a special magical night.

Rudolph was busy with all the reindeers and elves as they bustled the gifts from the workshop to Santa’s sled. There were gifts for children and young-at-heart adults. Santa wanted to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, kept Christmas’s spirit alive in their hearts.

As the evening progressed, the night air pulsed with anticipation and excitement. The crisp breeze carried the aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate, mint, and the evergreen scent of pine trees.

After Santa’s bag of gifts was loaded, Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer, made sure that all of the other reindeer had their fill of carrots, apples, and a few peppermint candies. It was Christmas Eve, and the team needed some sweets, too, for their long night.

“Look! Mrs. Claus has baked some of her gingerbread cookies for all of us to eat!” Fox said with excitement to his woodland friends.

Rabbit arrived with her annual Vanilla Reindeer cake for the Christmas Eve celebration.

“Mrs. Claus is handing out her famous hot milk chocolate with marshmallows for all of us. You better get some before it’s all gone!” Leo the Chipmunk said between sips.

All the wild animals lined up at Mrs. Claus’s station. She was busy handing out hot chocolate, bags of freshly baked gingerbread cookies, and Oatmeal cookies. Mrs. Claus made sure she had a bag stored away in Santa’s sled, too.

Mrs. Claus knew that Santa would be treated by all the boys and girls worldwide, but she would worry about his diet tomorrow. Tonight is about fun, magic, and being carefree!

Santa and Mrs. Claus took a moment to watch the merry activity of the elves, reindeer, baby elephant, and forest animals. They reflected on the true essence of this magical night.

“Tonight is about joy, family, love, and peace,” said Santa

“And about being with family and friends sharing laughter and cherished memories too,” Mrs. Claus added as she leaned into Santa’s warm embrace.

“Yes, the next 24 hours is about the joy of life. Having that extra piece of pie, cake, or cookie, about singing off-key carols and embracing silliness.” Santa said softly.

But Santa and Mrs. Claus said that not all families would have a happy Christmas. They understood that there were situations like divorce, illness, war, and death still happening even on this day.

He and Mrs. Claus extended their prayers, grace, and wishes of peace to those suffering and separated from loved ones in spirit.

Rudolph went over to them and announced, “We are ready to go. The sleigh is fired up and has been moved to our Silver Bells Runway.”

Santa gave Mrs. Claus a kiss on her peppermint-frosted cheek and bid her farewell.

Santa joined his team and settled himself in for the ride ahead.

“Now off with you Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Donner, and Blitzen. Let this be a magical night for all. Dash away, dash away, and let’s have a jingle ball.”

They took off in a flighting flurry of buzz and traveled far and wide. House after house, apartment after apartment, country after country, Santa and his reindeer delivered magic happiness to all.

Animals and families throughout the world watched the night sky trying to catch glimpses of Santa and his sleigh.

At his last house, while unloading gifts, Santa noticed an elf had left a new putter and putting practice system for the family.

The new shiny putter and putting practice system called out to Santa. Hmmm, I don’t remember testing this out, he thought.

Santa couldn’t help himself, he had to give it a try.

“Come on, Santa, we don’t want to get caught,” Rudolph whispers.

“Just wait one Kris Kringle minute,” Santa whispered back.

Creak, Creak, Creak

“Oh no!” said Santa, “Rudolph, did you hear that?”

“Yes! We better make like Candy Canes and disappear,” Rudolph said.

Santa quickly went back to the fireplace with Rudolph, twitched his nose, and shot up the chimney before getting caught.

When he finally arrived at the top of the chimney, he pulled out his bell, gave it a merry, jolly shake, and sang, “Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!”

“Now let’s get back to the golf course!” Santa says.

This is quite the sweet and sugary story. One thing you forgot Cupid in the reindeer.

  • All those cookies, cake and hot chocolate made me so hungry, lol. So nice of Santa and Mrs Claus to be considerate and thoughtful of the people who are not happy during Christmas. Also, at the risk of sounding dumb, aren't there supposed to be 9 reindeers for Santa? Cupid seems to be missing. Loved your story!

  • Outstanding illustrations! Very cute Christmas Eve story.
