It’s midsummer 2054,one year after the “incident “. What was a bustling city full of life, has now surrendered to the swamp-like greenery and the incessant song of the cicadas. In a few short seconds it takes RUIN to appear 13 floors below, she contemplates the content of the metal safe. She kicks open the safe ; the contents spill at her feet.
RUIN , otherwise known as the Revolutionary Unit of Intelligent Nanosystem”s pet project, escaped from captivity only to find that the world she left behind , isn’t quite what it used to be. She fought death at every turn to get how far she’s come. Nothing will deter her from achieving this very personal mission.
RUIN was once human. Since the incident, otherwise known as the Global Atomic and Nuclear Elimination Project, RUIN has been experiencing reoccurring flashbacks of what could only be described as memories. Flashes of what seemed to be her childhood, teenage years and some with a man that seems like her husband. This is not possible for her. She was taken days before GANEP occurred; she was one of the chosen ones.
She was amongst 100 people worldwide that were taken to Area 51 to be tortured and tested upon, in the maniacal hopes of creating the perfect android unit. When GANEP eventually happened, over 98% of the modern world was intentionally eliminated. Most of the unsuspecting human race was wiped out within hours of the global activation of dirty nuclear and atomic devices. Of the surviving 2% were scientists and their project contributors-Haven Nanosystems.
Within the contents of the metal safe, she finds the only thing that can lead her to the answers she seeks; the heart shaped locket that contains the Haven Nano Executive Information Device (NEID) .The locket when activated, will provide the clues she needs. She activates her personal nanosystem to reboot the device. The screen scrambles, then clears. The executive message #211, security level 09 appears. “Haven Research Facility B- under quarantine” flashes above the coordinates of it’s location.
The thrusters of her most deadly of threats, the Hunter crafts, startle her. At lightening speed, she leaps over the city wall, sliding down the concrete slopping toward her motorcycle, dodging an endless spray of rapid fire.
A chase ensues; RUIN vs the hunter craft. She maneuvers through thorny brush, overgrown grasses, and abandoned vehicles heading towards the tunnel. The hunter craft pauses, then releases two weapons, which chase RUIN with a vengeance.
Reaching alongside the gas tank, she ignited a weapon of her own making. She tosses the weapon behind her, hoping the explosion will destroy the missile tracer-like weapons. The weapons veer to the perimeter of the explosion, continuing to pursue her.
She ignites another weapon, tossing it into an abandoned vehicle; the weapons veer again, spraying bullets as they gain on her. She sees the road sign, indicating the tunnel ramp is approaching. She shifts gears, while turning onto the ramp. She enters the tunnel; the weapons soon follow. She ignites her last weapon as the tunnel exit approaches.
Tossing the activated weapon upward, onto the tunnel’s roof, the weapon lodges itself, exploding as the two weapons pass underneath. She turns to discover she has destroyed the weapons. Her victorious moment is quickly extinguished, when the hunter craft appears in the sky in front of her.
She knows what she must do. Another chase ensues. Literally dodging bullets. The hunter craft thrusts ahead, and turns to face off with RUIN. She reaches the cliff’s edge, she leaps toward the hunter craft, piercing a hole in the fuel main. The craft begins a free fall, lunging toward the ground. For a moment, everything went black.
Her system reboots. She jerks upward in a robotic manner. Grabbing the sword from the now disabled hunter craft. She activates the NEID device once more, determined to get those answers.
Days pass. RUIN has journeyed through frozen mountain terrain, and crossed several deserts to reach her destination. The wind is hot and the sand is pelting her skin. She stares at the charred ruins of what was the power plant that sits atop Area 51’s research facility 30 stories questions what if any, answers would be left to discover. “So close, but yet, so far” , she thinks as she bravely walks towards the ruins.
