Rose and Nutkin

A story of two friends

By shallon gregersonPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a young girl named Rose. Rose was not an ordinary girl; she possessed a unique ability to communicate with animals. She had had this gift since birth, but she was the only one that ever knew. Rose never told anybody else, in fear that they would either judge her or she would lose her gift. She had a special bond with a mischievous squirrel named Nutkin, who was always by her side. She first met Nutkin when she was around three years old, near a river that ran close to her home.

One day, Rose received an invitation to a grand ball at the royal palace. It was a celebration of the prince’s birthday, and the entire kingdom was invited. Rose was excited but also nervous, as she had never attended such a grand event before. With Nutkin’s encouragement, she decided to go and experience the magic of the ball.

As the night of the ball arrived, Rose adorned herself in a beautiful gown that shimmered like moonlight. Nutkin, dressed in a tiny tuxedo, perched on her shoulder. They made their way to the palace, where the grand ballroom was aglow with sparkling chandeliers and enchanting music filled the air.

As Rose entered the ballroom, all eyes turned to her. The prince, a handsome young man named Alexander, was captivated by her beauty. He approached her and asked for a dance. Rose blushed and accepted his invitation, feeling an instant connection with him.

As they danced, Rose and Alexander discovered they shared a deep love for nature and animals. They laughed and talked, their spirits intertwining like a delicate dance. But as the clock struck midnight, Rose remembered the warning her mother had given her.

“I must go,” Rose said, pulling away from Alexander. “I cannot stay any longer.”

Confused, Alexander tried to stop her, but Rose hurriedly escaped from the ballroom, leaving behind a glass slipper in her haste. Alexander, determined to find her, declared that he would marry the girl whose foot fit the glass slipper.

News of the prince’s search spread throughout the kingdom, and every maiden tried to squeeze her foot into the slipper. But it was of no use. The slipper was too small for anyone except Rose. The prince was disheartened, believing he would never find his true love.

Meanwhile, Rose was torn between her love for Alexander and her fear of revealing her secret. She confided in Nutkin, who urged her to follow her heart and reveal her true self to the prince. With newfound courage, Rose returned to the palace, carrying Nutkin in her arms.

When Rose arrived, the prince’s eyes lit up with joy. He recognized her instantly and realized that she was the one he had been searching for. Rose, no longer afraid, confessed her ability to communicate with animals. To her surprise, the prince was fascinated by her unique gift and saw it as a special bond they could share.

From that day forward, Rose and Alexander’s love story blossomed. They worked together to protect the kingdom’s wildlife and promote harmony between humans and animals. Rose’s ability to communicate with animals became a treasured gift, and she used it to heal wounded creatures and bring peace to the land.

And so, Rose and Alexander lived happily ever after, their love and compassion for all creatures inspiring others to see the beauty in the world around them. Nutkin, now a trusted advisor to the royal couple, continued to bring laughter and mischief wherever he went, reminding everyone of the magic that lies within the heart.
