Roof Top Serenade
"A chance encounter on a rooftop leads to a musical escape from the stresses of life"

The sun was beginning to set on the small seaside town. The sky was painted in shades of pink, orange, and red, and the warm breeze carried the smell of saltwater and the sound of seagulls. On a rooftop overlooking the ocean, a young woman sat with her legs dangling over the edge. She watched as the sun sank lower and lower, and the sky grew darker.
The woman’s name was Mia, and she had come to the seaside town to escape the stress and pressure of city life. She had rented a small apartment on the top floor of a building, and the rooftop was her sanctuary. She would often come up here to watch the sunset and listen to the waves crash against the shore.
As the sun sank lower, Mia felt a sense of calm wash over her. She closed her eyes and let out a deep breath. For the first time in a long time, she felt truly at peace. The sound of a guitar being strummed reached her ears, and she opened her eyes to see a young man sitting a few feet away, playing his instrument.
The man was tall and lean, with sandy blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He wore a t-shirt and ripped jeans, and his guitar was well-worn and battered. He played a slow, melodic tune that matched the rhythm of the waves.
Mia watched him for a few moments, then cleared her throat. “That’s beautiful,” she said.
The man looked up and smiled. “Thanks,” he replied. “I come up here to play sometimes. It’s a good spot.”
Mia nodded. “Yeah, it is. I like to come up here and watch the sunset.”
The man nodded. “Me too. It’s the best time of day.”
They fell into a comfortable silence, listening to the music and watching the sun sink lower. As the sky grew darker, the stars began to appear, twinkling overhead. The man finished his song and set the guitar down beside him.
“Do you come up here often?” he asked, turning to Mia.
“Yeah, pretty much every day,” she replied. “It’s my escape.”
The man nodded. “I know what you mean. Sometimes you just need to get away from everything and be alone with your thoughts.”
Mia smiled. “Exactly.”
They sat in silence for a few more minutes, both lost in their own thoughts. Mia wondered who the man was and why he was up here playing guitar. She felt a sense of connection to him, as if they were both seeking the same kind of escape.
Finally, the man spoke again. “My name’s Alex,” he said, holding out his hand.
“Mia,” she replied, shaking his hand.
“Nice to meet you, Mia.”
They chatted for a while longer, talking about the town and its people. Mia learned that Alex was a musician who played in local bars and cafes. He had grown up in the town and had a deep love for the ocean.
As the night wore on, Mia felt a sense of reluctance to leave. She had never felt so at ease with someone before. But eventually, she knew she had to go.
“It’s getting late,” she said, standing up. “I should probably go.”
Alex nodded. “Yeah, me too. It was nice meeting you, Mia.”
“Likewise,” she replied.
They said their goodbyes and went their separate ways. Mia walked back to her apartment, feeling lighter and more peaceful than she had in a long time. She knew that she would come back up to the rooftop to watch the sunset again, and she hoped that Alex would be there too.
From that day on, Mia and Alex met on the rooftop almost every evening to watch the sunset
