He sat on the edge of the bed, pulling his shoes on, cigarette bobbing loosely between his lips. He glanced back, her silhouette easily visible in the darkness of the room. He could see her, watching him, her blue eyes shining with the little light the moon shined in through the blinds on the windows.
“Can’t you stay?” She asked, her voice solemn.
He didn't answer. He turned back, lifted the other shoe and pulled it on. He felt her move, an arm wrapping around just under his neck, her body pressed against his back as she kissed his neck, her voice low, almost a whisper.
“Please stay. Just this once. Just this one time. Please... for me?”
He turned to look at her. She pulled the cigarette from his mouth with her free hand, kissing him hard on the lips and drawing him back with her weight as she fell back on to the sheets. She wrapped her legs around his waist, her arms around his neck as she passionately kissed him, his hands running through her hair, his other sliding up her bare legs, goosebumps forming upon them.
“Please. I’ll do anything. Just stay this one time,” she plead with him, their eyes locked as he looked down at her, her legs releasing him, falling to either side of him.
He kissed her again, smiling down at her before rising to his feet once more, taking the cigarette from her hand and grabbing his keys from the nightstand.
“What would you’re roommates think?” He asked.
“I don’t care what they think. I want you, isn’t that enough?”
“You deserve better...”
“Shut-up. I love you, isn’t that enough?”
He watched her, her pleading eyes gazing at him. He wanted to hold her, make love to her and cuddle with her till the morning light cut through the dark. But inside lay guilt, lay sadness and despair that he felt would only be a burden to her.
“I’ve my own demons to face...”
“What? And you think you’ll find them at the bottom of the bottle? Let me ease your pain. Sooth your savage soul. Let me tame the savage beast that dwells within you, that torments you each and everyday. Let me be your release and your salvation. Baby, I just want to make you understand how much I love you.”
He lowered his head, it was hard to look at her, her beauty, so vibrant, all he wanted was her, but his conscious wouldn’t let him have her. He deserved the hell the bottle brought, deserved the pain and misery it caused him. He had past regrets and torments that he couldn’t shake, things he wouldn’t wish her to have to deal with... to deal with the monster he was.
“I love you, you know?” He said, her hand pushing his chin up so their eyes locked.
She was on her knees, her bare, naked body that of a goddess’, so gorgeous in the dwindling light. She kissed him, her arms wrapped around his neck, cradling his head.
“So then stay. Stay with me. I love you so much, let me love you.”
He grit his teeth, holding back tears as they forming in his eyes. He bowed his head but she wouldn’t allow it, forcing it back up to face him.
“It wasn’t your fault. Baby, it wasn’t.”
She rose to her feet, his arms wrapping around her waist as her buried her head into his chest, her arms around him. He could feel her shivering, feel how cold she was.
“Get back in bed, you’re cold.”
“Not till you come too.”
He sighed, kicking off his shoes. She climbed on to the bed, taking his hand and pulling him, lifting the covers and tucking her body under. He climbed up, laying beside her. She threw the covers over him as well, cuddling up to him, kissing his cheek.
“Thank you.”
