Peter is getting his things ready as he prepares to head out of his house and to the hospital. “Looks like I’m just about ready to go visit Dr. David so he can tell me when I begin my cancer treatments” Peter said out loud. “I’m only 32 years old and I’ve been diagnosed with colon cancer. I always thought I was invincible, but I found out different yesterday.” Peter then made his way out of his front door and into his car where he set course for the hospital.

“You know, this is a prime example of why I lost my faith in God. I spent my whole life trying to be better for him, but it’s like I just was never enough. Now here I am on the hospital to meet with Dr. Kill-Dicky so he can educate me on the process of slowing up my certain death.”

“Now all I can think about is how much I-” before Peter could finish his train of thought he was suddenly startled by a Ford Explorer SUV that veered into his lane from the opposite direction. “WHOA WHAT THE HECK” he screamed out loud as he quickly swerved in the next lane. After moving out of the path of the incoming car he nearly had a head on collision with another car the opposite lane before narrowly missing the car by mere feet. When he looked in his rear view mirror he saw the SUV flip over and go off the road.

“”Oh my goodness” Peter gasped. He turned his car around and headed back in the direction of the car in peril. He stopped his car right behind the toppled SUV and got out. “HEY!” Peter called out. “”Are you okay?” He shouted as he quickly ran to investigate the driver’s side. Inside the driver’s seat was an injured man with a bloody wound to his forehead and a small piece of glass lodged in his lower abdomen.

“I…I’m stuck” the man struggled to say. “I’m gonna get you outta there” Peter asserted. A car pulled up from behind the wreck and the couple which was a man and a woman jumped out of the car. “Is everything okay?” The man in the driver’s seat asked. “Call 9-1-1” Peter rebuttaled. Peter then tore off what was left of the windshield and started pulling the injured man out. As Peter strained to get the man out sirens could be heard in the distance.

“Easy, easy. You’re gonna be alright” Peter started as he pulled the man into the grass. “It hurts…God it hurts” the man groaned in agony. “Just hang on. Help is on the way” Peter said with assurance. “I…I feel like I’m gonna die” the man said in agony. “Don’t talk like that” Peter asserted. “We’re gonna get you to the hospital and you’re gonna make it”. “I…I don’t think so” the man strained. “An anxious Peter then glanced over at the man’s driver seat and saw a holy cross hanging from what was left of car’s mirror.

“What’s your name?” Peter asked the man. “Jacob” the man strained. “My name is Jacob”. “Jacob I’m Peter. I can see the cross in your car, so I’m guessing you’re a God fearing man?!” Peter suggested. “Yes…most of the time” Jacob answered. “Then pray with me” Peter replied.

Peter locked palms with Jacob’s bloody right hand and began praying. “Lord God, we need you to put your hands on Jacob and heal him from this pain and injury”. As Peter concluded his prayer the ambulance finally arrived. The paramedics lifted Jacob in their ambulance and carried him to the hospital. Peter quickly hopped in his car and followed suit.

When he arrived at the hospital he sat in the waiting room for an hour for an update on Jacob’s condition. He thought a lot about his prayer and how he needed to get his faith back. “I was down in the dumps when I was diagnosed with my cancer. I was ready to give up on the man upstairs, but then he put Jacob in my path and I was scared if the idea of watching this man die and having his family and whoever else loves him losing his life would be agony.”

One of the doctors came out and the ER and approached Peter. “How’s he doin, Doc?” Peter asked. “He’s gonna be just fine, but he’s gonna have to stay with us for a while” the Doctor replied. “Can I see him?” Peter asked. “Just for a minute, right this way”. Peter followed the doctor into Jacob’s room. “I’ll leave you two alone” the Doctor said departing the room.

“How you holding up Jacob?” Peter asked. “I’m making it, thanks to you” Jacob replied. “I can’t than you enough Peter. You saved me back there”. “Well you also saved me” Peter began. “How so?” Jacob asked. “I nearly lost my faith after being diagnosed with cooon cancer recently, but when I saw your accident it was a wake up call. I desperately needed the Lord to save your life, so that you wouldn’t be a loss to the ones you love, just like I don’t wanna be loss to my loved ones on account of my cancer.”

“Well if you could rediscover the faith in your heart to save my life, then I can have faith in you as a friend as well.” Jacob asserted. “Then I guess I can consider you a friend as well” Peter added. “You’re gonna beat your cancer, Peter and I’ll be there beside you as you fight it”. “I’m right there with you” Peter replied. Peter the. shook hands with Jacob and walked out of the ER with his head held high and faith in his heart for whatever awaited him on the road to recover. His faith had now been rekindled.
