===Chapter 2===
Moving out would be just fine. The house wasn't spacious, and Xia Xiaolan already had her own room, which meant there was one room that could be emptied. Auntie San, eyeing the dilapidated yet clean room, had already planned to move her daughter Xia Hongxia in—it was time for her to have a room of her own as she grew into adulthood and prepared for marriage.
"Isn't there an old house on the riverbank? It's at opposite ends of the village, so I'll just stay there and spare everyone the trouble of looking at me!"
Xia Xiaolan revealed her original plan.
Grandma Xia wouldn't hear of it: "You've already embarrassed us enough; the fact that we haven't beaten you to death is a kindness in itself. Do you really think we should give you a room?"
Despite the old house on the riverbank being on the brink of collapse, with mosquitoes in the summer, cold in the winter, and smelling of the nearby cowshed, Grandma Xia refused to agree to it easily, not wanting Xia Xiaolan to be too comfortable.
She always felt that something had changed about Xia Xiaolan since she woke up.
She was still meddlesome, but now there was a method to her madness... Grandma Xia was perceptive and didn't want Xia Xiaolan to slip out of her control.
Xia Xiaolan smiled, "Then I won't move out. It's not bad here; there's food and drink. My reputation is already ruined, so I might as well stay at home and be an old maid! Big sister is a precious university student; she won't let her own sister starve, will she?"
Xia Xiaolan was indeed a tough nut to crack, and even Auntie Da, who hadn't spoken a word, had her eyelids fluttering wildly.
Did Xia Xiaolan want to leech off her son, Zi Yu?!
"Ah, Auntie here doesn't believe those people's words. Xiaolan, you're just quarreling with the family now. How is a young girl supposed to survive on her own? Auntie will talk to your grandmother; let's all take a step back and calm down."
Auntie Da led Grandma Xia out of the room, and Auntie San quickly followed.
The younger generation in the room glared at Xia Xiaolan with hostility, and Liu Fen cried softly. Xia Xiaolan sighed:
"Don't cry, I can't survive if I stay at home."
Endure the insults a bit longer; the Xia family wouldn't really kill her... But Xia Xiaolan didn't want to endure. She had a chance to be reborn; why live such a stifled life?!
Before long, Grandma Xia and the others came back in.
"The old house is yours to live in. Whether you live or die, it has nothing to do with the Xia family!"
Xia Xiaolan, pushing her luck, also wanted to take away the An family's belongings. Grandma Xia had no choice but to deal with this stubborn woman and finally threw her a small bag of sweet potatoes:
"Get out!"
