Pillows of stone

You were never really here, but you kept me company.

I wandered far through the whispering trees,

With you by my side

Searching for a home where my heart could be free.

Stars above, like diamonds that gleam,

Guided my path, chasing a hope-filled dream.

The stars twinkle smiles of cheer

As they call to the night sky and me...

'lift your weary head up, dear one,

from your pillows of stone'.

Our heads had nowhere else to rest

But upon those cool marble-like headrest

Beneath the moon and the sky,

We quietly sing our joyful song,

It's heartfelt, the somber lilt sets me free

This tune from a searching heart

An anodyne to soothe the hurt

to pillows needed by the mind

Harsh are the stones when the night

falls heavy, cold and unfeeling,

alone, yet not

The stones of pain become my balm

Mother moon whispers sighs, sister star glows faint,

The stars above won’t ease what I try to hide.

Harsh are the stones beneath my brow,

Still, I welcome the company, you and the stones

Broken dreams that flee from me, gone somehow.

Beneath the moon, sky, and scattered stars,

I trace the distance to where you are.

I dream of time past, of wonderful memories

Your aura's warm delight that lingers...cherished

Forever lost to the winds, our lives now torn.

Each pebble a scar, each fissure a wound,

The echoes of silence sing their tune.

I awaken alone...

The wisp of a wind reminding me

That you are with me in spirit only

The heavens weep, a quiet plea,

A broken heart beneath this canopy.

Each stone remembers, the love that was,

Now dust and whispers erase my words,

My heartbeat sings sad songs to the heavens.

Wicked stones beneath my brow,

Dreams that flee me, gone somehow.

Under the moon, sky, and scattered stars,

I trace the distance to where you are.

The stars above, a distant fire,

Their beauty mocks my heart's desire.

Each twinkle reminds me of what I've lost,

Of love abandoned, oh! how dear was such a cost.

Wicked stones beneath my brow,

Dreams that flee from me, gone somehow.

Under the moon, sky, and scattered stars,

I trace the distance to where you are.

The wind it whispers, a haunting sound,

As it wraps me close, yet I feel unbound.

The cold earth cradles me in its embrace,

While my spirit drifts to a warmer place

Beneath the heavens, I’ll make my plea,

For the stars to guide you back to me.

But the night stretches endlessly on,

With pillows of stone. Will you not come

Help me trace the distance to where you are.

++++

But hark! I see the dawn a'coming,

Eagerly I greet its light...

Breaking the shadows, ending the night.

The stars may fade, but I’ll hold their glow,

A promise that love will again bestow.

Thank you

Pillowed stones beneath my brow,

Dreams, oh dreams they have found me,

They've come somehow.

Under the moon, sky, and scattered stars,

I have traced the distance to where you are.

For every stone beneath my head,

A dream will blossom where hope once fled.

The moon bows out, the sun takes its place,

A new day rises with your ghostly embrace

You were never really there

But your presence comforted me

Enveloping me in gentle, warm memories

Through the lonely, sleepless nights

Finally, hope returns

No more will I need these

pillows of stone beneath my brow,

Dreams return to me, I feel them now.

Under the sun, sky, and endless blue,

I’ll find my way back home to me!

Thank you my kind departed companion

Even from the heavenly plane

You reached down a hand to guide me

Home!

Not present in physical form

But as a comforting blanket of our yesterdays.

"to pillows needed by the mind"- this is a picture that really stuck in my mind Antoni. Sometimes we forget that our minds need healing too. You repeated key lines as the poem went on, and a strong sense of longing was obvious in this!
