The Beautiful Scenery

It was in the early morning hours; she had just stumbled out of bed after a night of restless sleep. It had been a rough year, where nothing seemed to really be going right. Still though, she was a dreamer, she wasn't the type to give up. She knew that things were going to turn around, they always do.

She didn't have anything to do today, so she did what she loved to do in these peaceful moments that lately seemed to come all to rarely. She stepped out onto the balcony, immediately dropping into the chair that she had put out there specifically for occasions such as this. She loved times liked this when she could just sit back and breathe.

It was a beautiful, warm spring morning. The sky was a pure baby blue with a couple of clouds placed sporadically. The hum of the fan, which with the natural cool breeze that was blowing, she closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath as the wind brushed her face. Her hair blowing in her face, she had to laugh.

Looking around, it was a peaceful sight. For what seemed to go on forever, she looked at the crystal-clear water. The sun shined down on it, making it sparkle like glitter. There were trees and rocks surrounding the water. It looked like something off of a post card. She could hear birds singing happily as if to say, "Everything is going to be ok." This was a sight that she had loved since she was a little girl, a time when life was so much simpler.

As she sat, thoughts raced through her mind. She looked back at the last few months; it had been a rough ride. It seemed that everything that could go wrong, did. Sometimes she would just sit, wondering how she got here. What did she do, what could she have done? Sometimes all she could cry, sometimes, there didn't even seem to be any more tears left. Still, she held on to hope.

Looking out over the horizon, she imagined what it would be like if she could fly over it. She thought of flying high over the water, through the clouds, distance didn't exist. She could just be, nothing but the fresh air on her face, and nothing to be afraid of. It was a beautiful thought, and for a moment, she could see and feel it.

Yes, this was her happy place, somewhere that she could sit and reflect on life. Everything she had been through, everything that is to come. Yet through the peace, she couldn't help but feel a slight emptiness, like something was missing. Through the peace, there was a twinge of sadness that she couldn't shake. At this point in her life, she had always imagined that she would have made it so much further then she had. She thought of the little girl that she had been once, the one that never believed in the world impossible.

In that moment, she wondered what was next. Will she ever be able to live of the life that she had always dreamed of? What she wanted was quite simple, yet it didn't come very easily. The one thing that she truly wanted was happiness. She wanted a moment to look back at her life and have it all made sense. Every heartache, every disappointment, every time that she looked blankly, wondering what she did to deserve such pain. That it wasn't for nothing, that every one of those obstacles were put in place to bring her to this moment of certainty.

As she sat, sipping the iced vanilla coffee that she had, she sighed. She knew that someday, that moment would come.
