It’s such a shame that the western world has lost touch with what cannot be seen. Especially when it comes to our health, as most of the body cannot be seen by the naked eye. Sometimes the answer to our questions can be so simple if we open up our minds and hearts and tap back into that sacred knowledge.
Some may call me a witch, but all that means is a woman that is in-tune with all that happens around her. I specialize in physical pain. When I meet someone new I can feel their discomfort, and I know the pain that they feel completely. However, as a person with this gift, I have a responsibility to not share too much. I may only tell others what they are ready to hear and able to understand.
One day a young woman, Olivia, came to me complaining of chronic headaches. She had seen every type of doctor, and more than 10 years later her pain had become too much. The problem with headaches, you see, is that they can be caused by anything. She was absolutely desperate. Poor Olivia had been told by doctors again and again what might be the problem, each time recommending some new treatment as a part of the process of elimination, so far yielding nothing but frustration.
She came to me in a time of despair, and Oliva thought she was ready for anything. I asked her, “Are you willing to do whatever it takes?” “Absolutely anything to stop the pain,” she replied.
The most important thing to understand is that pain originates from more than our physical plane. There are multiple worlds in which we are intertwined, and the root of pain can begin and end in any of them. Unfortunately for this girl, her problems were beyond this world. The thing that had been making her sick was something that she would not be able to understand if I explained simply in words. So for this girl, I taught her how to journey to these other worlds.
To see what had gone wrong I had to bring her along to the lower world. This is a place of absolute magic, with flora, fauna, and fairies, and most importantly this is where you can meet your power animals. These powerful creatures are the ones that guide you throughout your life, and help keep you protected when you get side-tracked. They are always lurking just beyond the shadows, making sure that you are okay. The reason that this piece of the puzzle has long since been forgotten by many is because we feel the effects of these other worlds in our lives, but most cannot see them.
The way to get to the other worlds is quite simple, if you know how it’s done. First I began to beat the drum, at a steady pace, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. I told Olivia to relax, and focus her mind on her favorite hole in nature. “Describe it to me” I asked. “Well, there is this one waterfall, with a swimming hole so deep at the bottom, because the water rushes down so fast all year round” she gleamed. I told her to close her eyes, focus on the beat of the drums, go into her mind and allow herself to go down that hole. This is the gateway to the other worlds. And down we went together, down, down, down to the lower world.
Now let me be clear. Everything in this world is much less solid. Oftentimes it can be hazy, and more difficult to understand, especially when we live in such a concrete society. Everything here is made out of energy and light. I reassured Olivia that we were protected, and safe, and that it was time to see what had been holding her back for all of this time.
It was at this moment that she understood there was this whole other part of life that she had been missing, and that she had been so afraid of. A fear of the unknown and what lies in the darkness in these other worlds. And in this understanding came the key to her freedom.
Now that Olivia had been adjusting to this world she was starting to see more clearly. With that clarity came an intense feeling of weight digging into her shoulders and sitting right on top of her head. I held a mirror up to her, and there it was, right where it had always been, a barn owl, sitting right on top of her head.
At that moment, she started to laugh, because the answers to her problems were finally solved, and it was an owl on top of her head. It’s talons had been digging into her shoulders, right next to her neck for longer than she had even known she was in pain. Now that she had faced her fears and finally came face to face with what had been causing her pain, it was now time for that barn owl to fly away.
The owl released its talons, and gently flapped its wings and flew off into the distance, but quickly it returned and landed right next to us. Oliva asked “Why have you been causing me pain?” He responded simply “to help protect you from what was hidden in the darkness”.
You see, this young woman Olivia was born a witch. However, the world she grew up in did not teach her what that meant. From a young age she was gifted. She could see and hear things that other people could not. A whisper in the wind, or a gentle pull to the forest. In the western world, that makes you certifiably insane. So rather than grow up in a world that did not make any sense to someone with her powers, she simply turned them off. They began to make her feel afraid because she was offered no explanations. So when she was just a small child she shut her eyes hard, and no longer wanted to see what was beyond the darkness at night.
In flew the barn owl to protect her from these gifts until a time came when she was prepared to understand. He knew that Olivia was destined to see beyond the world she had known, and become a woman of her full potential. He also knew that in the place she grew up, it would be safer to reveal only pieces at a time, in a way where she could learn slowly. So there he sat. He sat on her head to help protect her from all of the information coming her way that no one taught her how to process. With him in the way, Olivia’s mind could slow down, and she learned how to relate in her western world. However, pushing away her true nature for so long is a hard job to do. The price she paid to keep her eyes closed in the dark had to be chronic pain. Unfortunately at the time, there was no other way.
As the drums stopped beating, we made our way back to where we began. And although Olivia was now headache free, it made me sad that she had wasted over 10 years in pain, simply because nobody ever taught her about being a witch. In this world of prescribed pills and x-rays, sometimes the answer is as simple as an owl sitting on your head. If only more people understood the deep connection between worlds, there would be less people like Olivia suffering.
This barn owl taught her that she would always be protected. What Olivia once thought was simply useless pain had proven to be years of devoted service, from her good friend the barn owl. If that isn’t true love, I don’t know what is.
