Were You a Good Girl?

"The time doesn’t exist, you know?" The older sister looked at the sky, as if it were a mystery, wanting the little girl to understand without explaining. "It’s never passed, it’s never been." The little girl looked at her, confused. "But... I want there to be boundaries. A beginning and an end."

"You don’t understand," the sister replied, her eyes hiding something the little girl couldn’t grasp, an emptiness beneath her calm. "Time is a circle. Everything repeats." The little girl felt a jolt. Her breath grew heavy.

"What do you mean?" she asked, but already felt a coldness growing inside her, as if it was too late to ask. As if she knew the answer. "You know, that day..." The sister’s voice trembled. "I asked you not to touch... that thing. But you did." A sad smile. "You always did, never listened..." Her voice cracked, like a rope snapping. "Then there was no more time." The words felt fragmented, like shards of glass that couldn’t reassemble. The little girl looked into her sister’s eyes, but saw only a shadow. "Why are you talking like this?" The little girl whispered, already feeling an echo inside her. A distant memory she didn’t want to face. There, deep down, a flash. A knife. A scream torn in the dark. But it faded quickly.

"You don’t remember, do you?" the sister said softly, as if the words had become too heavy to carry. "There was never a time when you weren’t... alone." The little girl’s breath became labored.

"I... I don’t want to be here," she said, but her voice wasn’t a request. It was the sound of something collapsing. "That night... your voice." The sister spoke as if it were a dream. "I asked you to stop. But the blood... never stops." The little girl squeezed her eyes shut, but the memory slipped like sand. The images came, then vanished. They slipped away, leaving only a distant echo. The sister looked at her. "And you... You never understood there was no time for me."

The little girl was about to respond, but her breath stopped. The room vanished, and in that moment, there was emptiness, silence. She had something to understand, something to face.

She looked into the mirror. Every time she saw the old woman with sad eyes. A bent old woman, with empty eyes and labored breath. It frightened her, but she had become used to it, especially since the her sister was always behind her, a shadow staring.

The door opened, and the nurse entered lightly. "Ma’am, it’s time for your medication." The old woman didn’t take her eyes off the mirror. The sister was still there, staring in silence. The nurse’s voice grew louder. "Ma’am, please... the medication." The old woman didn’t respond. Time, as the sister had said, no longer existed. She slowly turned to the nurse, but in her eyes, there was the knowledge there was nothing left to do. "There was no time for me..."
