He watched her from afar with his mouth agape as she walked toward the hotel’s reception in a floral dress hanging just above her knees. She was breathtakingly beautiful and she carried herself with so much poise effortlessly that it leaves a tight knot in his throat. “Put yourself together man, you just met her,” he said to himself rather too loudly.

Olaedo waved at him as a way to get him away from whatever thoughts he’s been thinking - he was lost in so many thoughts that he didn’t notice her walking up to him. He smiled in response to the wave from her tiny fingers and nodded towards the door, as a way of indicating that they should get going.

She looked at him in askance, thinking he was weird but what’s her own, the man offered to show her around at no cost, she might as well make very good use of it and take in the beautiful scenery in the hotel.

Adrian: you’re such a beautiful woman, and I find you really fascinating too for reasons I’m yet to fathom. Although, atop the list is me still trying to understand how you upped and came to Vegas by yourself as a choice vacation destination. I bet you have a lot of stories to tell but first tell me, no, indulge my curiosity, are you even single?

Olaedo: {looked at him for a while from the side of her eyes without turning her head} Well, if I were your woman, would you let me come to Vegas unaccompanied?

Adrian: {blurting out} definitely not. That will be me willingly setting myself up. Have you taken a good look at yourself and how effortlessly you turn heads since you got here?

Olaedo: {shrugs} well…

Maybe the men here are of a different breed because I wouldn’t be 35 and single if I turned as many heads back home in Nigeria.

…. That was all the clue Adrian needed. This woman was single and it was his second chance at trying this love thing again. He hasn’t as much as looked at a woman unprofessionally since his divorce two years ago and maybe now is just the right time for it….

Adrian: May I ask you a rather personal question?

Olaedo: Sure.

Adrian: I mean no stereotypes or profiling but, do you have anything against divorce and being with a divorcee?

Olaedo: {quiet for a few seconds as she wasn’t expecting the question} Expect you were abusive and unfaithful, which led to the divorce, I naturally don’t. Life can be tough sometimes as I learnt from my late mum’s failed marriage, and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.

Adrian: I’m so sorry about your loss. Your mum obviously did a good job with you I must say.

Olaedo: How so? You just met me and you can tell?

Adrian: Not to sound arrogant or something like that, but I’ve met with and been around a good number of women to form a valid opinion, trust me.

…… they both laughed hysterically and walked towards the bar, mumbling some incoherent words, followed by more laughter ….

After walking around for a few minutes with drinks in hand, they decided ‘twas time to call it a night. They said their goodbyes and each went to their rooms with high expectations of what tomorrow will bring.

I really loved his company Olaedo said to herself as she hit the shower.

Adrian was pacing in his room too, restless with thoughts of her clouding his mind.

Then Olaedo heard a knock on the door just as she was about to tuck herself in bed. She didn’t place any order, so, it couldn’t be room service. With a sigh, she walked towards the door and swing it open only to see Adrian bearing a bottle of wine and two glasses.

Adrian: May I come in?

In response, she shifted aside to make way for him.
