The Girl with Blue Hair and Yellow Eyes

Mira had always known she was different. While other children in the village had brown hair like wheat stalks or black hair like midnight, hers fell in waves the color of a summer sky. And her eyes—those bright yellow orbs that seemed to glow in dim light—made shopkeepers pause mid-sentence and children whisper behind cupped hands.

"Storm child," the elders called her, though never to her face. They remembered the night she was born, when lightning split the heavens and rain fell sideways for three days straight. Her mother had laughed at the superstitions, but even she sometimes caught herself staring at her daughter with a mixture of wonder and worry.

On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Mira discovered why.

She woke to find her bedroom window rattling violently, though no wind stirred the trees outside. The glass trembled in rhythm with her heartbeat, and when she pressed her palm against the cool surface, it cracked in a perfect spiral pattern.

Her yellow eyes widened as she pulled her hand away. The crack sealed itself instantly, leaving the window whole.

"Mira?" Her mother's voice drifted up from downstairs. "Is everything alright?"

She opened her mouth to call back, but instead of words, a low rumble of thunder emerged. Not from the sky—from her throat.

That's when Mira understood. The blue in her hair wasn't just unusual pigmentation. The yellow in her eyes wasn't merely a rare genetic trait. She was connected to something far greater than herself—to the vast, untamed power of storms that had welcomed her into the world sixteen years ago.

As she stood before her mirror, watching tiny sparks dance between her blue strands, Mira smiled. Different wasn't something to hide from anymore.

It was something to embrace.

Outside, the first drops of rain began to fall from a cloudless sky, and somewhere in the distance, thunder answered her call.
