Mina's Plan

Mina’s new step-mom, Naomi, was not a kind woman. Oh, she was nice enough in front of others, like Mina’s Dad, but when no one was around, she would make snide remarks towards Mina and comment about sending Mina away to boarding school to live. Once, Naomi even slapped Mina for no reason whatsoever.

Well, Mina might only be fourteen years old, but she had devised a plan to get rid of her step-mom, once and for all. She’d been planning for months and felt that the plan was damn near fool-proof. Now, all she had to do was set her plan into motion.

So, Mina told her Dad she wanted to throw Naomi a surprise party and asked if they could use the Parlor for the get-together. Then she invited everyone that mattered in her dad and her life. Afterward, Mina told the servants what their jobs would be and gave a specific menu for the affair (of course, none of the food was her stepmom’s favorite food). Once she had completed all that, she sat back, satisfied that she had set the wheels in motion for her plan.

On the day of the party, she had arranged for her step-mom and her to leave the house for a while to prepare the Parlor and food. All the guests were to arrive by five pm, so she planned on them coming back to the house by five-thirty.

Everything went according to plan, and they arrived right on schedule. Naomi was busy griping at Mina and telling her she needed to go to boarding school again. Just as Mina had hoped she would be. Then Mina led them into the parlor where everyone and the food was. Mina’s step-mom was still cussing at her and had just reached to grab her arm when everyone came out of hiding to yell surprise. Only at this point did no one yell surprise. Everyone stared in shock at the words they had heard coming from Naomi’s mouth.

At this point, Mina pushed play on the stereo system she had hooked up in her just for this purpose. Out of the speakers came her stepmom’s words set to music. Each recorded sentence was one of the hateful phrases she had said to Mina over the last few months.

Mina turned and looked at her dad. She knew there would be some changes around her by the look on his face. What she knew was that she was so glad that her dad wasn’t looking at her that way.
