As offspring of the 1981 to 1996 generation millennials revolutionized the fashion domain beyond recognition for all prior generations. Identity and values alongside creative expression take priority over rules-based approach as their style philosophy.

The modern generation defies previous movement by rejecting fashion house and magazine governing trends and choosing to capture their own identity. The current fashion trend presents vintage to modern combinations and luxury next to thrift goods and streetwear with traditional basics. The mentality of mixing and matching various fashion elements through personal preferences created the trend toward unique and personalized outfits.

Millennials used Instagram and Pinterest to champion the revolution of their fashion through social media channels. The fashion realm extended its source of inspiration beyond traditional catwalk shows because influencers and peers along with digital subcultures became primary style influencers. The fashion world experienced a value-driven shift because Millennials backed brands which promoted sustainability alongside body acceptance and diversity inclusivity.

The fashion industry placed sustainable fashion in the forefront of its operations. The buying habits of this generation show greater social awareness because they select eco-friendly companies and recycle items instead of choosing conventional rapid fashion brands. The industry currently faces pressure to evaluate how it makes products and markets itself together with improving its accountable practices.

Fashion became less gender specific as gender-neutral trends successfully eliminated longstanding divisions between menswear and womenswear categories. To millennials the concept of fashion flows freely as a method they use to display individuality.

To millennials fashion went beyond following trends because they transformed the fashion industry. Through their mixture of individual style and social activism and digital ways the generation has used fashion both to express style and to create change.
